Yet more news about the Wii. Apparently spring 2007 could wield a "re-launch" of Nintendo's latest console. This isn't anything to get too excited over though - by re-launch they mean a new price tag of $200 (down from $250) and the introduction of some new colors. Although it's been no secret that Nintendo was planning different variations of the Wii this is the first suggestion that's been given of when they will be released. However, this data does not come from Nintendo directly but from a Toys 'R Us manager, so it could be unreliable, but it does sound quite possible.

200 Ha they are banking on Xmas!!!

damn 200 and BLACK!!!!

Hopefully the stand will come in better colours rather than all of them being that same grey.

Come spring time, hopefully there will be some worthwhile titles to play. *Prays for Mario and Metroid*

The best titles will probably be the ones that you wouldn't expect and are unique to the Wii. At the end of the day, if it is just ported over to the Wii it won't be all that good because the main idea of the Wii is that it's innovative and different.

Exactly. if you can get the 360 version, it will usually suck anyways..

w00t for braingames?! :)

Eyyyyy

this is what I was looking for.

If I don't get one as a gift and this is confirmed, I'm getting a red one.

Why would Nintendo lower their price to 200$? They have no competition.

Because its the next tier of selling points.

Mommy and daddy see in the store..

$200 Wii, $400 xbox, $600 ps3.

The kid wants all of them.

WHich are they gonna get?

It only puts them not just a step ahead of microsoft and sony, but a LEAP ahead in the price competition.

Plus it promotes game sales :) Cheaper console = more money to buy games.

I want blue, that puke lime green color is ugly as shit.

i want a purple one

And also, if a Wii is $250, and someone sees a more powerful Xbox 360 Core for $50 more, they might go for the Xbox 360. I think it's great that they're lowering prices (if true), but when are they coming out with the new Wii with built-in DVD player?

Would've been nice if they'd started off like that. I'd personally be interested in seeing a USB DVD drive working on the Wii, which I expect someone could do quite easily. Admittedly DVD players are only about £20 for cheap ones now, but it would be nice to watch them from one piece of hardware.

I guess you could argue that with HD-DVD and Blu-ray coming along a built in DVD player is going to quickly become redundant by the time they get around to releasing it, but you aren't going to update all your DVDs straight away.

And why would someone bother buying and addon dvd player for the Wii, when standalone dvd players are a dime a dozen.

By my comment I was meaning the use of external drive such as those intended to work on laptops that people might have anyway. I personally wouldn't spend money on an extra DVD drive, but some people would benefit if it could take advantage of standard USB DVD drives.
