i know these cards in SLI at stock clocks at full load draw roughly 400W

my processor (Core2 E6600) uses about 65W.

How much does an average 7200RPM drive draw, and an 18x dvd burner?
also how much does the x-fi xtrememusic use?

would 600W be sufficient to run a system with sli using core 2 E6600, 1x optical and 1x Seagate HDD @ 7200RPM and an x-fi card, i want to get an 800W PSU later on when i eventually buy the second card, but will i absolutely have to?

youll be looking at at least 600watts but that would have to be high end 700w imo would be sufficent as long as the 12v rails dual have at least 17a - 20A+

Benchmark Scores Fast. I don't need epeen.
look at high quality 650w PSUs and over. Ideally you want a PSU where the individual rails have a good 20A.

Ermm...
Worst case TDP for 8800GTS is 115W.
i know the 8800gts draws 26a (...)
nVidia recommends such amperage for 12V rail.
This doesn't mean the card draws 26A as most components in a modern PC also feed from the very same 12V supply.

Thus 26A is a recommendation for a system with the most insane power hungry components (Intel P4 dualcore ExtremeEdition, lots of HDD & RAM, misc. accessories, etc.)

If I were buying a PSU right now, I'd look into Silverstone Zeus ST56ZF (560W).
;)

Max of 10W for an average 7200RPM and <10W for the burner. Ermm...

well my main concern is when i do get a second one down the line will my 600w be sufficient, because by then i might have added 2 or so HDD's. and a review i read earlier todays showed that an 8800gts setup drew 400w trough the rails for the GPUs

I have 2 RaptorXs in raid, 1 140GB, 2 DVDRW, 2 water pumps, 8 fans, and a P4@ 4.6GHz, still runs fine on the Enermax 620W Liberty.

If you're gonna be saving for 6 mo or so to get the second card, save some extra for the power supply. Test yours to see if it's stable in SLI. If yes, then great, you now have some extra loot. If not, pull the second gfx card until you get a new power supply.

the (2) does not stand for two cards but even higher resolution/aa in 3dmark

based on that you can about figure out what 2 gts' should draw

you wont have any problems with your 600w psu

Stop the insanity, lol...

i know these cards in SLI at stock clocks at full load draw roughly 400W

my processor (Core2 E6600) uses about 65W.

1) The HD's use around 20-25W, the CD/DVD about 15-20W and the sound card about 10W.

2) I may be upgrading my vid cards in the near future to the 8800GTS or possibly wait until the 8900's come out  (can't makup my mind as of yet  ) and swap out my XFX 7900GT's. I may continue to use my 600W PSU (I like power so knowing me I'll probably be upgrading to a 900W), I believe 600 will handle the GTS series but not the GTX, in SLI. What's most important is the 12V rail amps, along with overall watts. Here are a couple of links that will answer most of your questions. The first link has the calculator :D that you can plug in all of the numbers (they don't have the GTS listed yet, only the GTX). The other link states that the GTS (SLI) compairs to the 7950GX2 (SLI). Check it out, a lot of good info. When I ran my system through this (with the 8800GTS {SLI}, 100% utilization) it came up to 566W required. See my system specs, a lot of fans, 2 x HD's, etc. Also, NVIDIA, XFX, etc., only recommends 400W for the GTS and 450 for the GTX (non-SLI), so I don't see why 600W with the proper amps won't run 2 x GTS's... I hope this helps out, it did for me. :rockout:
