A few days earlier, AMD's Matt Skynner displayed the company's newest graphics card that seeks to extend the performance leadership currently held by Radeon HD 5970. The dual-GPU AMD Radeon HD 6990, codenamed "Antilles", makes use of two 40 nm "Cayman" GPU, which powers the single-GPU HD 6950 and HD 6970. The core configuration of Cayman in Antilles is not known. The card itself keeps up with the product styling that all Radeon HD 6000 series carry, it's about as long as the HD 5970.

This time, AMD is toying with a revolutionary new cooler design that makes use of a cylindrical blower (like ones used in air-curtains, on a much smaller scale) to draw air from the rear portion of the cooler, and circulate through the complex vapor-chamber enhanced heatsink inside. In other words, the card lacks a fan intake hole where it's typically located, but the rear portion serves that purpose. Power is drawn in from two 8-pin PCI-E power connectors. AMD is expected to release the new enthusiast graphics card in this quarter.

In the first pic he's all like:
"Hey! looky what I got here! It's a dual GPU card with looks of a brick, or a 9800GX2 with red stripes on the side. Neat, huh?"

In the second pic he's:
"What did you say? Did I just hear the N-word?! I'm gonna throw this card at you, if I hear that again!!!"

At first glance it looked like he was holding a VHS.

new cooler design...
hmm, might be exciting...

When is the release date of this beast anyways ?

So all the air is dumped into the case?

Where are the wood screws?
There are some high standards for revealing cards at shows these days...

Wow! I think it doesn't look that long. Or maybe my eyes are lying to me. Or that guy is 7 foot tall

So this is either 2x6950 or 6970 cores, looking at the 69**cards performance this dual GPU is a bit of a wet fart release IMO, and it will be heavily downclocked.

AMD need to hire someone with talent to design their cards because the 6*** cards are fulgly MOFOs

Doesn't need to be as long because of the new cooler design. Look where the cores are. A regular centrifugal fan like on most GFX cards would be on top of the 2nd core. The narrow "air curtain" style fan fits in the end and doesn't take up much room (I imagine). I bet it is a noisey mofo though.

Picture 2 makes it look like a VHS tape. Words of my girlfriend & I.

And upon re reading the page, btar has already read our minds. Lovely.

I'm always amazed that people care what the inside of their computer looks like.

Wet fart?

Funnily enough 6970s don't do to badly against 580 sli setups

single card vs single card nvidia wins, crossfire/vs sli it depends on the benchmark.

personally i like the design, straight simple and powerful although the looks is close like a brick but overall i like that

its a realy wicked brick

i hope its hd 6970 downclocked, just like hd 5970

I wonder why no specs has been outted yet? What is AMD hiding under that hood? If scaling over a dual setup improve any, this maybe a monster of a card.

No.It sais that it sucks air from the back of the card and throw it out.

No, it doesn't say that. It just says it draws air from the back, unless you're taking "circulates" as meaning it dumps the air out the way it came in, which would be truly awful. Such a narrow space for intake and exhaust to share means it's going to suck in it's own exhaust. Given the idiocy of that I'm left having to believe it will dump all the heat from both cores directly into your case. That's fine for an aftermarket solution but a stock cooler shouldn't be counting on the consumer having decent airflow. I wouldn't be surprised if this thing ends up shipping with the conventional blower design.

Like others thought Brick VHS lol.

But it's what i am waiting for so i can decide what to get so even so not really any details Thanks anyways BT.

Hell, this looks like one of those old PS2 consoles with red stripes.
