AOC Announces the Ultra-Slim Aire Black LED Monitor

AOC, the world's largest manufacturer of LCD/LED Monitors and HDTVs, reveals the Aire Black LED, a glossy piano-black monitor featuring one of the world's slimmest display panels. This new all-black addition to the popular AireLED Series offers bonus features like embedded Screen+ software that allows the user to divide the screen into four self-contained work areas. The Aire Black LED monitor comes in 20-inch (e2043Fk, $129), 22-inch (e2243Fwk, $149) and 23-inch (e2343Fk, $179) screen sizes, and is now available at national retailers including Best Buy, Radio Shack, Office Max, Fry's, TigerDirect/CompUSA and PC Richards, among others.

The sleek widescreen Aire Black LED Monitor is one of the slimmest display panels on the market at 12.7 cm throughout. The monitor also offers impressive image quality with a 50,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio, 5ms response time, and a DVI-D with HDCP input for the ultimate HD viewing experience. Along with being EPEAT Gold Certified for its green packaging and production, the Aire Black LED Monitor on average consumes only 15 watts of energy and includes an eSaver feature that lets the user preset power conservation modes for the display when the PC is not in use. The monitor's Power Saving Mode uses 50 percent less power, and Standby Mode uses only 0.1W.

I don't find 12.7cm slim at all. Perhaps they mean 1.27cm, otherwise it is a fat bast4rd.

I notice they are very proud of their slimness, but less proud of their pixel resolution... nothing said. I guess a pretty poor x1050 or x1080 and no hi-res here.

^ LED is only used as backlight of LCD screen. It's better than old halogen backlight because it's lifespan is higher and it can give light more evenly and contrast is better because of it. Maybe uses less power too.

LED is better by design. Lower power. Possibility (when done properly) of better color accuracy, stability, and color-temperature management. Done badly, it's just a marketing fad.

Original LED professional monitors used LEDs where each of the R G and B components could be controlled allowing for very accurate calibration. The "consumer" LED models are just cheap white LEDs and there is no guarantee in the term LED meaning quality at all.

A bit like the first TFTs. Expensive, but great quality. Then came cheap TN TFTs. Prices for the mass market, but quality way down.

At $141 for a TFT there is no room for complaints. That is an excellent price no matter what the limitations or comparison to high end TFT. At those prices, EVERYONE can afford a TFT and that's a plus.

I have owned 2 AOC monitors, and I have to say I love them both, not the highest quality, and not the best stats, but for the price a solid contender and they get the job done.

The 22" and 23" models both have 1920x1080 resolution. I was hoping the 23-inch would be something more like 2048x1152. Oh well, the 22" is obviously the best deal then. ~$30 cheaper and better dot-pitch than the 23"
