A U.S. research institute has sued Nokia, Samsung Electronics and Matsushita-owned Panasonic for violating a patent for Bluetooth technology, potentially putting the free wireless standard at risk. The Washington Research Foundation, which markets technology from the University of Washington, is seeking damages from the three mobile-phone makers for using a radio frequency receiver technology without paying royalties, according to court papers obtained by Reuters on Wednesday. Nokia, Samsung and Panasonic declined to comment the story.

"A University of Washington scientist Edwin Suominen was awarded a patent in 1999 for "simplified high-frequency broadband tuner and tuning method."

Well if he has the right of way let him sue and get his money he deserves.

agreed...

to say that you made something and other major corps are making money off it while you sit there, i would sue also.

bluetooth is ghey anyway. WiFi FTW!

how is bluetooth gay?
if it was pointless it wouldnt be used, it must have some sort of reason for existing.

Eg - reduction of interference with commercial transmissions???
- More secure due to low range???

Hmm, he has a Finnish last name, literally. Suomi=Finland and nen is the ending found like in 50% Finnish surnames, like in mine too. Maybe his grandparents were fins. Would not suprise me as Pamela Anderson's grandfather is also from here :)
