ASRock unveiled the first Fatal1ty-branded AMD platform product, a premium motherboard based on the AMD 990FX chipset, ready for AMD FX series processors in the AM3+ package. The board sports the signature Fatal1ty color scheme of black and red, and is geared for high-end gaming PCs. The AM3+ socket is powered by a 14-phase digital PWM power design, which is ready for even 140W chips. It is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots supporting dual-channel DDR3 with speeds of over 2000 MHz by overclocking.

Two of the unique selling points here is ASRock Fatal1ty XFast USB, a pair of low-latency and high-polling USB ports to plug in your gaming mouse and keyboard; and XFast LAN, which is a software layer that works to lower latency and prioritize internet bandwidth to applications. To top it off, there's a Fatal1ty-themed UEFI setup program that features some extra advanced settings.



Expansion slots include three PCI-Express x16, of which two are PCI-Express 2.0 x16 wired to the 990FX northbridge, while the third one is electrical PCI-Express 2.0 x4 wired to the SB950 southbridge. AMD CrossFireX and NVIDIA SLI are supported. Other slots include two each of PCI-E 2.0 x1 and PCI. Storage connectivity includes six SATA 6 Gb/s with RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5, 10 support; and two eSATA 6 Gb/s. There are six USB 3.0 ports, two on the rear panel, four by headers. ASRock bundles a nifty 3.5" front-panel that extends two USB 3.0 ports to the front of the case, and also doubles up as a 2.5" drive tray to install SSDs on. Other connectivity includes 8-channel HD audio driven by Realtek ALC892 featuring THX TruStudio, two gigabit Ethernet controllers featuring XFast LAN, two XFast USB 2.0 ports (red), and FireWire. ASRock did not give out pricing or availability information.

Looks solid, and being branded as an AsRock if it can get a slight price drop over competition, that would be amazing.

I can live with it. Though I wish that the second PCIe x1 and first PCI were switched. With 2 x video cards and a PCIe x4 SSD, the two x1 would remain open. Luckily it has dual LAN and I'll still have that remaining x1 open for something other than a dedicated NIC.

This board is in the running for my BD box... whenever AMD gets off their duff and releases it!

Don't get me wrong; I could care less about Fatal1ty throwing his "name" on products. In fact, I think it's a good thing that ASRock is using an actual "gamer" to get input on product design...at one time Fatal1ty was a very good "pro-gamer", so he should have some insight on that sort of thing.

I dunno. He is part of what made the pro gaming circuit what it is today. It's like asking Micheal Jordan about running shoes...he may not understand what makes a shoe a shoe, but he will know what feels good to game on.

But I think I would too. Hmmm. Cadaveca endorsed products. hmmm....:laugh:

Because it's a Fatal1ty product? No. I'm interested because it's fitting my criteria for a new board. I don't expect it to perform any better or any worse than similar products.

LOL... given the configuration I outlined earlier, I'll clearly see "Fatal1ty" between the two video cards as I have nothing to put in that PCI slot. Perhaps the slot positioning is a conspiracy to keep his name fresh? Makes me rethink wanting a case window...
 
nice board though id rather not look at fatality or see his name on my board.

price looks and features are all sure to be good.
 
I could care less on the name, but it is a nice looking board. Lets hope it has a processor to make good use of the good looks!
 
Lets see some peeps try to OC the SOB same with Biostar and see if they get higher numbers than the boards From Asus, MSI, Gigabyte

wouldnt be able to tell you, i can only assume u can check settings in windows for USB ports to see if polling is different, maybe...
 
I'm particularly interested because I was rewiring my flat, and I thought I'd run a 5M USB cable through the wall, under the carpet along with the ethernet and an HDMI. I'l be connecting a hub to the end of it, and then hopefully sticking a wireless keyboard, mouse and gamepad into that. I'll be using another hub as a repeater between two 5m cables.

I fear USB performance may not be all it should be, and I'm wondering what my options are to get it fixed - that's why this boards USB claims seemed interesting.
 
you might want to check max distance of cables before doing that to ensure no signal loss occurs
 
I wouldn't buy a product with this sort of endorsement attached to it.

I have done, it's 5m which is why I'm using a 5m cable then a hub, then 5m then hub.

I agree with you about the Fatal1ty. But it's just the same as Asus Crosshair or MSI Military Components, it's just marketing branding. I guess it must appeal to someone or they wouldn't all do it.

its the better spacing for two card sli/xfire as it allows the top card to breathe
