Razer, maker of high performance gaming gear, has reported that two of their prototype gaming laptops were stolen on the weekend of 4th November from their Bay Area R&D lab. Looking at the basic specs of the laptop, one can see why they were so attractive to thieves: Intel Core i7 2640M Processor (2.80 GHz), 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 Memory, 17.3" LED Backlit Display (1920 x 1080 pixels) & NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M with NVIDIA Optimus Technology and 2 GB Dedicated GDDR5 Video Memory and of course the styling. The outfit is understandably miffed about this and have announced the theft on their Facebook page:

Dear Razer Community,

Over the weekend of 11/4/11, we had a break-in at one of our Razer offices. Two Razer Blade prototypes were stolen from our Bay area R&D lab.

As you can imagine, the return of these prototype units is very important to the company. We have already reported this to the authorities who are working closely with us on this matter.

We take this act of theft seriously and would like to appeal for its return and discourage anyone from buying the Razer Blade prototypes from the perpetrators, whether online or otherwise, as they are stolen property.

We appreciate any and all information anyone may have on the incident. Please contact us at cult@razerzone.com if you have any information.

Thank you for all your support.

Here's hoping that the criminals are caught soon and brought to justice. In the meantime, here is Razer's press release for this laptop, including more pictures and full specs.

Thanks to Kevinheraiz for the lead. :toast:

"Attractive"...I'd turn around and sell it to buy something decent :D

^ exactly. laptops are never meant for gaming.

How the hell did they break into an R&D Lab in the first place? I assume you can't just "walk in"...major fail of the security company in charge! :twitch:

Most likely an inside job.

Most companies will pay the least they can for security services. Typically, at night or on the weekends, security consists of an unarmed mouth breather showing up at various, random (or not so random) times of the night to check the doors, windows and stuff.

Also, those jobs typically pay minimum wage or slightly above and have high turnover rates.

If they are too cheap to pay for an on site guard at their R&D warehouse, that's their bad.

id buy it. and then give it back to razer with proof and info on who i bought it from, reward and job security?

nope. reward wont be worth it.

Stolen?

Razer is stealing money from those who buy this crapola! >:[

gaming laptop

"gaming laptop"

wtf cyber crimes are increasing day by day

Razer is like Apple. Their products don't have to be the best quality, nor have the best functionality, but if it looks good, they will have customers. I hate to say it but this laptop really interests me.

Gaming laptop what from 1995 or somewhere back there ??? LMAO

This does not even qualify as a Apple Craptop, it does not have a CPU "2760qm-2960xm" or a pathetic old crap (nv560m/amd6870m alienware junk) that should have only been in the Ipad1.

This is just a attempt for Razor to stay in the news and to get people too stupid to buy Apple laptops to buy this.
Only console gamers would label this junk as a gaming laptop.

Does this Laptop comes with a magnifying glass?

1920x1080 on 17" screen... what is all the bugs doing on my screen... Oh! wait! they are letters...

There are some 15.6" 1080P screens. Someone was selling a laptop on this forum like 2 weeks ago with one. It's not that bad considering how close you'll be to the screen on a laptop as opposed to a desktop monitor.

Good try Razer...

They must've been inspired by the MW3 "heists" (yes, there are quotes), so they thought... "wow those guys had a great advertising idea. I mean it's genious, not only it's free advetising, it's also going to be reported on sites and possibly even TV news "shows" (yes, there are quotes) that don't usually cover "nerd gear" (yes, there are quotes), giving us a foothold in previously untapped markets! Genious I tell ya'!"

Note to Razer: this is not a gaming laptop, unless you think Minesweeper or Solitaire are games. Oh, they are? OK, then this is technically a gaming laptop. I guess...

This little project was a full of fail from day 1 hype "pcgamingisnotdead" (if it actaully could run any PC games to begin with). So now theyre trying every pathetic trick in the book to try and sell this thing. Even OP seems more like a marketing queto...

Actually I was referencing the so-so specs with the insane price premium. It is a laptop that can run some games, but there are gaming laptops for less which can run a lot more.

w/e totally inside job for advertising. The laptop specs are not that good, certainly not enough gpu power to merit being called a "gaming laptop" It's no where near the specs of current hardware. BP's laptop can tango with this one despite being much much older.

The tinfoil hat conspiracist within me like the idea of this being an inside job. :D It's certainly plausible, that's for sure.

dude, as far as gaming laptops go (oxymoron?)

is not bad at all. the price will be bad, but the components are not.

as for the inside job part, that was my very first though as well.

$20 says it was the security guard.
