SOPA-like Legislation Mulled in Spain

If people are willing to buy piracy, I assume attributing the ills of the world to gnomes or "the little people" would suffice.

Piracy does not represent lost sales, what excuse do these politicians have for focusing their attention on the alleged lost revenue of huge corporations when employment figures translate to 1 in 5?

So you don't have anything really? Just askin.

They don't need any excuses.
Most of us are fully aware that the banks are largely responsible for the financial crisis, yet our governments continue to provide them with bailouts, despite reticence on the part of banks to afford credit and ease the burden on the general masses. Notwithstanding, we continue to go about our daily business and, in any event, our protests are limited to ousting incumbent governments to replace them with others that consistently bear an uncanny resemblance to their predecessors. Is it not obvious that no excuse is needed?

Too much "capital" is evil, very evil, despite of Gates foundation this, NGO that, the end effect is too much power. So far religious, moral or social standards have failed. The old Hitler will be nothing compared to the upcoming Dominant Male and its squadrons of white collars... Unless the power remains with the people. Armed power included. Bring back the guillotines to delete the present "elites"!

Sorry for the offtopic. Sinde is minor problem. I couldn't care less. Viva España Republicana.

You drive a Honda Hornet. Your opinion is null. Kidding of course.

Does a XJR1300 negate the validity of anything else I might like to add?

Yamaha?! COME ON MAN!

Anyway lets get back on topic. I sense a mod rasing the hammer. I'm like Spiderman now.

Capitalism promotes industry - Innovators
Corporatism censors industry - Worthless lobbyist

LOL Mailman!

Ah, and "we" worry about software/hardware copyrights/piracy... If we looked at the weapons, pharma and food industry it would be much more serious (the pestilence I mean)...

You are contradicting yourself here. You don't want money to rule the world, yet you wish that people grab the means that brought us in this actual position? Don't forget that when "the people" took action to get rid of the feudal system, they got a system that was worse: absolutism. When that was abolished, thanks to the folks who took up arms and built guillotines, we got the position we currently find ourselves in.

Ontopic: ity is actually silly that Spain could make that decision. Matters like that should be decided upon on EU level, no matter the outcome.

The point is that Spain is one of the most corrupt countries in the developed world.

I'd put the US toe to toe with Spain in terms of corruption.

shadow governments are at the root of every major industry

there should be no such thing as closed door meetings. conspiracies thrive in the dark while beneficial policies for the people are made in public. Bilderburgs(among others) should be condemned by all nations

not as many people are watching the TV for their news these days and have turned to the internet for alternative news. since a wealth of information is available online, these factions are losing their sway over the people. since people are starting to wake up to truth they need to censor us

this is why we have SOPA popping up worldwide

So you wanna have an even BIGGER centralized power (EU) prone to corporate influence? Interesting.

I'd put the US toe to toe with Spain in terms of corruption.

Honestly I think we are worse. At least the Spaniards are more open about it.

Shadow governments? Are we talking illuminati now? I was still trying to wrap my head around the freemason thing.

MM, it is an assembly of groups working together. they believe themselves to be Elites and are systemically wiping out the middle class. they worm themselves into our governments; they are the source of corruption

The middle class has no one to blame but themselves. The second they accepted a hand out they were doomed. Dunno why people are so upset. All of this happens in cycles. Wanna know the future? Open a history book.

There is no conspiracy. If there were you wouldn't know about it. Blaming shadows for your problems is an easy way out. Everything you see happening has happen before. This shits like the Matrix.

to an extent I agree. anyone that wants everything given to them is only giving their liberties away and shouldnt point fingers for their hardships

but you also need to recognize that when a system is developed to promote handouts and people dont know their history then they can easily be taken advantage of. look at the US history of academics. we have been dumbed down by design nearly 70% is just 10 years. do you think that is just a coincidence?

again, you have it partially right with history, there has always been men trying to globalize their power and they stop at nothing to attempt it with each century

conspiracies are alive and well in the 21st century. what you are failing to recognize is their methods. war is no longer the best way to achieve global dominance

- The EU economy is weakened partly because of the southern European governments not giving a fuck about doing things properly. If things were more centralised, there would have been a smaller chance on the Netherlands etc. having to cut in education, welfare, etc. just because other members mess up (or the same for those others if the NL etc. mess up).
- The best way to deal with corporate influence is decreasing consumerism, not letting other political and social problems prosper just because of the lack of will to risk a corporatism-increase-through-unification.

Fight fire with fire, get enough people to stop buying music, videos for a month which would result in sale figures going down the loo... Wounder how their "Pie" charts would look then, pie is a lie! :slap:

Apparrently Wikileaks has released some cables detailing a US senator informing the former Spanish president that he would be in breach of trade agreements if he didn't pass this law and could be subject to pentalites such as embargoes.

So let me get this straight. A US senator is threatening another soverign power's leader on a matter of domestic law? Can somebody just nuke Washington for me?

Just found an article that states that Jaime Malet, President of the US Chamber of Commerce in Spain, has just sent an official communication to the newly elected Spanish President, Rajoy, urging him, amongst other matters, to hasten the passing of legislation to crack down on the abuse of intellectual property rights, whilst advising him that a failure to do so would fail to impress US multinationals and lead to a considerable loss of investment.

These things (pressure from holliwood) are well known here in Spain.
Funny (irony) is we pay extra tax on all media supports like pendrives, harddisks to pay the Spanish artists through specific lobbies (SGAE etc).
Not sure if part of that tax goes to Hollywood or Sony, etc...
