It certainly seems unlike Dell, jumping into a field predominated by the competition. Dell just last year left the MP3 player field, due to their player's inability to crack the domination of Apple and SanDisk in the market. However, Dell seems very dedicated to making it's own entry into the mobile console market. The most logical way to do this based on current tech is to make a Dell Axim model designed for gaming. If it could boot a version of Windows Mobile, it would certainly have access to a lot of games. However, games take a lot of battery power, something Dell should not take lightly. It will certainly be interesting to watch how Dell moves along with this idea.

How The Register imagines it will look-

man i wonder what its going to be like i hope its better then the psp even though the psp is a nice handheld.

Nintendo's Handhelds, and to an extent, even the PSP has the handheld divison on lockdown. Dell, better steal the trade secrets of Nintendo if it hopes to succeed. Id like to see what they come up with personally.

Added a (possible) picture, I don't mind playing Halo 2 on a mobile machine :).

now how in the sam hell will i control that there is nothing it looks like handheld pc with a paintshopped halo 2 screenshot on it

There really isnt a Windows Mobile games market.

i would buy it if it was any good

It looks like a palm pilot rotated... Good job Dell.

Dell actually didn't have anything to tell the press aside from "yeah we're making one" so the Register just filled in the blank stuff with fun :).

nintendo already kill dell's offering 18 years before this news came up! even the "almighty" psp can;t take down there dominance in the handheld gaming sector.

I used to have that PDA in the picture. It's one hell of a machine.

-624MHz Processor
-Intel 2700g Video processor
-WiFi
-Bluetooth
-VGA Screen 640x480, it's truly stunning. When you're surfing the net it looks exactly like your PC

Dell should go with this, if it was WM powered and played games great i'll buy.

It looks like another N-Gage or the Gizmondo. It will not be very good as not made to be primarily a gaming device and is not made by a company who knows how to make one. On top of that, it will have no games, much like the Gizmondo.

If Dell is selling this as some kind of PDA that can game because it has Windows Mobile, then its really not a gaming system (nor does it look like one), and there is not really any kind of reason to buy it over any other simple PDA.

it looks like dell is reaching out for the left handers :), based on the concept picture,

but the screen can rotate and it become right handed! Wow what an innovative feature!
