Cheesus, what is with you people... lighten up a little.

I'm a gamer. I love games! I have found numerous games I enjoy on everything from the PC, PS3, 360, everything in-between and all the way back to the Atari 2600, Coleco, and PC (TX). :toast:

Sure not everything that comes out is not a AAA Blockbuster. But that's no to say there aren't dozens of gems and tons of fun to be had!

And on a side note, I use my 360 mostly for streaming Netflix and Hulu these days. That's mainly b/c I've been playing Skyrim, Deus ex, and BF3 (god I hate "battle log"...) on my PC. :toast:

Good for you that you can afford all consoles. :(

i guess a bookend counts as "not gaming"

@Prima.Vera - that price is insane for most of us. would you do a speedtest and post?

Wasn't Microsoft accused a while back of making third party video services video quality inferior to their own offerings? I could be wrong but I swear there was a big thing about that when they updated the 360 to its current dashboard. But yes, apart from the PS3 supporting more video formats, there really isn't a quality difference between the two.
Then again I use PS3 Media Server so all the decoding is done on my WHS, so I'm getting the same signal to both my 360 and PS3 regardless.

It seems you are totally correct, I hadn't even heard of this until now, but nice find. Kind of puts a huge wrench in the fanboys talking about anyone using the PS3 lacking the best picture quality. I'd really like to see the few people that made this claim actually back it up.

They are not 1080p native, they are both 720p native, but upscale to 1080p. But the updates to the firmware have provided better PQ versus when they got released.

They render games in 720p(and the Xbox even renders some lower than that) and upscales to 1080p. However, video content is rendered at the source resolution, so if you are watching 1080p content, then there is no upscaling. If you are watching lower resolution content, they both upscale the content equally. In that instance it does come down to the upscaler and there can be some difference, but they are minor, and I believe most will say the Sony upscaler does a better job if you really really scrutinize the image.

Anyone of you know if there's a really good alternative for the PS3 Media Server? Still running this software for streaming MKV and music over LAN, but it's really getting old and the last update was years ago.

EDIT: I have to correct me. There IS a new version of PS3 Media Server. Suddenly I found one. :) There: http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/

but those who got it to work right prefered and switched from ps3ms might be soemthing to look at.

I use my PS2 just for gaming :P It's not even wired to the net. I just use it for offline singleplayer games.
I use my Sega DreamCast for classic gaming and my Wii for Netflix. But nothing beats PC gaming.
