Block Pirate Bay: UK High Court to ISPs

I'm not sure you guys know what censorship is. You people act as if the UK is burning books.

They block PB ISP will loose money and business its that simple.

Forget about the fat cat bankers, corrupt politicians, police etc forget about the internet scammers, the underground gangs and drug dealers, lets focus our attentions on people who never bought music, games or videos and never will who download them for free :wtf:

I'm not sure you know what censorship is. You act as if censorship only involves the physical.

Book burning is just one facet of censorship, so I don't know why you mention it in the first place, in a way that implies that if it doesn't conform to the acts that are done in book burning, it's no longer censorship.

I agree with your stance on piracy, but blocking a site like (if enforced which I don't know is what they are doing, see KeiranD's post) that can have side effects. If nothing else "the rock will start rolling" and what will they censor next, or block?

Artists who are famous are going to be wealthy regardless of people pirating their shit and artists who aren't famous are gong to want to get their shit pirated so that they do get famous.

Who are they censoring for?

Essentially, it is the same thing. They decide a form of media is illegal, then they try to destroy it and keep it from the public.

What annoys me is the government telling private companies that they have to do the policing. The ISPs shouldn't be charged with blocking illegal activity the same way the guys building roads shouldn't be charged with stopping speeders.

i'm all for torrents, but the pirate bay is a terrible website full of viruses and fakes.

no big loss.

They are not saying the media is illegal. They are saying the way to acquire media is illegal. Not that downloading is illegal. But downloading from an unauthorized source is.

They are doing it the wrong way. If the government wants to stop it they should start their own DNS and ask people to use it, and not allow resolution of dangerous sites, or other things they don't approve of. Then it would be up to the end user to decide what is in their own best interest.

This is how ignorant the old geezers in charge of the world are. Do they think Pirate Bay is the only torrent site?

Unauthorised (proper spelling thank you :p ) source? what are you on about, TPB does not store content. You are downloading from other users, who deems these to be unauthorised sources? You better well shut down Google on that same premise! As well as all the other search engines and anything that links to any torrent/warez period.

By blocking TPB, its forcing us to use proxy servers and VPN, and this is usually a bit harder to track down. So, in the long run, its better for the pirates. (A bit like forcing people to wear condom when having sex with a prostitute, at the end its for the customer's benefit, even if its a bit inconvenient and annoying at first).

Hilarious, well done :)

Piratebay = Mosty porn, games and movies, . . . . . and most of those have viruses, fuk em, let em burn.

I'm not for this, blocking crap either, its a terrible path to go on.

I'm not sure which is worse: how wrong you are, or the fact that you think you know what you're talking about.

Refute me then. I await. :pimp:

Well said, this is exactly it. It allows PEOPLE the ability to do that stuff but so does the very existence of the internet. They might as well target the problem from the source and that is the whole entire Internet but that would displease to many people... If they can get Pirate bay for this, they can get google for this and with that follows just about every other site they deem as a terrorist... I mean Unauthorized..

but where will i download my linux distros?

Pirate Bay is a place on the Internet that prides itself on linking unauthorized distribution of intellectual property goods. Hence the name PIRATE BAY. Its not that hard to see the difference between them and someone like Google......unless your a lil' touched in the head.

I understand where you are coming from but not allowing them to block any site is also bad. What if there was a CP version of Google? I sure hope you would want someone we pay taxes for protection to do something about it......like block them. Its all about checks and balances.

Your right, its not that hard, but it does take some actual thought to see the similarities and thus the risk.

havn't we already had this discussion 1 billion times? time to move on, people.

Where burning books again!?!?

God DAMMIT!

WHEN WILL THEY LEARN!

some things to consider

how you lot doing?
my names popeye, and ive just been nosing round looking for news/discussion about tpb and ended up here, now ive read through the thread and felt commpelled to join your comunity to add this;
the blocking of tpb is wrong
hats a given
but as to why its wrong i only saw one answer on here that gets anywhere close,"censorship allways comes with misson creep" and, that is what its all about.
its about setting foundations for the policing of the flow of information around the web, its easy to start with pirate bay because to folks who read the daily mail have no legitimate purpose so start there then, the precedent is set, and it continues at will of people with money=influence. I.E. not you
in the original article i read it was in the same sentence, i think, that the writer switched the disscussion to making isps block ALL "adult content" to people who do not specifically opt in and proove age WTF? who checks? who decides? another database full of our details to be sold/surveilled. AND this is in the back ground of the monetary system collapsing around us and youve just got to wonder why they are going after this and i think that the monopoly's (recording film software) have the money to push this through and they pay folk to lobby for them,so, they're PAYING for political influence and it so happens that the gvt. would benefit hugely from it too so here it begins,
copyright currently stands at life + 70yrs because Disney lobbied for it that in itself i think is criminal but thats me...
anyway thanks for reading and i hope that you would research what ive said im not a conspiracy nut but the internet has levelled the playing field so far in favour of the people against the gov/monopoly that anyone who would give it up is working against the good of mankind, its that big.
now my new friends.......
FLAME ME or discuss further?
