Apple Patents Game Controller and Console Remote

And everyone thought M$ was insane with $60 controller prices. Now Apple has beaten them with $500+ price for a controller. Although, it'll prolly work with iPod Touch too so...$200?

I really hope apple die and fucking burn. The gayest and worst company ever. Brain washing even their consumers to amazingly dumbfounded levels whereby they think an Iphone 4 is better than a Galaxy S3.

Let me tell you this story guys. I went to go look at a Galaxy s3 and a Htc One x for my new phone cap. The man at the desk was an obv apple fan boy as he pulled out his Iphone and started texting. That was kinda rude. So I told him can I have a look at the two handsets mentioned earlier. He said ok, plopped each one on to the desk and I had a look. He immediately told me about apparent flaws of the s3. According to him it must be switched off 4-5 times a week so it doesn't overheat. He said and I quote this "you'd be better off with an iphone, get with the new tech, don't use these bricks." MOTHERFUCKER YOUR IPHONE WEIGHS DOUBLE MY PHONE AND SHATTERS WHEN THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF PRESSURE IS PUT ONTO IT. I pulled out my current GS2 and said mate, look here. This is my phone. Name 3 things you can do, that I can't. He didn't reply. I said I could name a list of things my phone can do what yours can many times better and things my phone can do and yours can't. I left the store and I hope that that mans iphone can be shoved up his ass.

Apple get out of my console gaming!

Four [Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Apple] enter the arena, who will remain standing?>

Microsoft and Sony will duel it out as the "hardcore" consoles, Nintendo will continue doing whatever the hell it's doing - likely Nelson's part in this clip, and Apple will sue everybody once they patent the letter "X", batteries, and infrared communications. TL;DR Apple wins.

I don't like consoles. Hey devs; port GT5 to PC for me so I can sell my POS PS3. You seem to like porting everything else

Did anyone actually read the patent?

Just at a glance it appears to be discussing a way of using your phone to link to devices.

Devices will have a special symbol on them so you can tell that they are compatible, and the devices will have a QR code to scan which will automatically sync them.

That's what I got from it anyway.

( Having more of a read, it's not quite as simple as what I mentioned but it is essentially linking up the iphone to other devices)

You are only about 40 years to late on that one. Hell 15 years would have been ok. Now? Waste of time.

Not having any cash to do so in about '95 when I just had a feeling I should is one of the biggest regrets of my life. Financially, anyway.

some of it mentions game controller support. so it looks like either:

A: PS4? controllers will work on next gen apple devices for next gen apple games on next gen iphones/ipods.

B: apple is making a PS3 lookalike controller, designed for that purpose.

I guess I am the only one excited about this. Honestly the gaming industry is stuck and wont move on, so here is Apple to pressure Sony, MS, and Nintendo into doing something I am all for it. I am not sure why so many people hate on Apple. I do not own a Apple computer , but every one I know that has one is happy with it. I say more power to the users what ever floats your boat. I build my gaming PC's, as I like to tune and tweak but I am not opposed to options.

Anyhow, yeah its lame that it looks like a PS controller, but the SNES controller looked like the original PSX controller and that was fine. I think this is a good thing, and lets see more competition, as of right now I am sick and tired of year after year same game new skin.

Yea, that has lawsuit written all over it.. XD

Actually some of us just plain don't care.. Apple and MS don't pay my bills and tabloids hardly interest me..

^ fairlady: look up Ouyah

thats the kind of thing that will shake up the gaming industry, not the ability to connect a gamepad to your phone so you can play low budget racing games on a 4" screen (or then connect it to your HDTV so you can get N64 level graphics from a $600 smarthphone and $100+ controller)

What the heck I must have been living under a rock lol. Yeah, this looks very interesting. Hmm lets see where this goes. In the end Apple can make what ever they want, but if its not something that people want they wont sell it. Thanks for the heads up on this joyo thing lol.

And? A VAIO is technically a PC, is it not....

I think there would be a LOT more sales for PC than PS3, plus the game would actually be able to play the way it was meant to be played

Just sayin :o

The game was designed from the start for the PS3, I think playing it on the PS3 would be playing it "the way it was meant to be played"

Besides I doubt that they'd sell as many as you say, GT5 happens to have sold more copies then any other game on the PS3 --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games#PlayStation_3

ridiculas, they will be throwin patent disputes out left and right next to anyone makeing a remote + sony for 3 consoles worth of design copying in the controller department:roll:, how is that different from sonys and im sure ive no interest in Any console apple makes as angry birds and swipe fighting would be its max app

Next week apple will sue Sony for using a Sony controller and MS for having an Xbox that looks like an Xbox.

wow me and MM agree :)

The USPTO should have denied the patent. That looks like a PlayStation controller clone. Looks to me like they didn't even try to change the PlayStation design.

Additionally, I don't think there's any room for a fourth competitor in the console segment.

Noooo, Sony copied Apples design. lol

The problem is they patenting it. :banghead:

You really need to upgrade your computer. That is all sir.

I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't condemn gay people for no apparent reason.

In Australia the term gay is used very loosely. For example. Wow how gay she gave us an an essay over the weekend.

Sorry to offend, had nothing to do with gays.:roll:

our usage of the word gay is pretty gay.

according to the dictionary, gay means happy. so people cant get offended by that word anyway.

SNES (1990) predates PlayStation (1994). Sony and Nintendo were actually collaborating to make an optical-drive based console. Nintendo backed out sticking with cartridges (Nintendo 64); Sony released the PlayStation to recoup research costs.

SNES controller has no handles on it like the PlayStation controller. PlayStation also has two shoulder buttons on each side instead of one. Yes, they have similarities (like D-Pad on left and 4 buttons on right) but those are due to the nature of human hands. What Apple patented effectively is a PlayStation DualShock controller. The patent should have been denied. There's nothing innovative about it.

The only reason why Apple is doing this is because they see the success of Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Wii Shop micro-transaction sales and they want a piece of that pie by bringing the Apple App Store to the home entertainment system. All Apple cares about is the money.
