More than eighteen months after it first debuted the P Series, Seasonic unveils its range topping SS-1200XP3 (where XP3 denotes a third generation product). Visually, the new power supply closely resembles the 1000 W version and the first generation 860 W version (now retired). Also similar is the fan employed by the new unit, being the same Sanyo Denki San Ace 9S that Seasonic employs across its premium product lines. The similarities do not stop here though, the unit boasts the same semi-fanless operation mode where the fan is engaged only at loads exceeding 30% of the PSU's rated output, also the customary 105° C rated Japanese capacitors are used throughout the unit. Seasonic also advertises this unit as a single +12V rail design, just like it did (and still does) with its first generation P Series products, in spite of the fact that they are quad-rail designs with OCP trip points set very high. Remains to be seen if that is the case with the 1200 W version as well.

Sweet. Finally a new Platinum PSU from Seasonic. :rockout:

Here in Brazil the 1000W has vanished... and i really like the looks. And tell that this PSU has good performance is a understatement.
 
Why are they more (92%) efficient at 115ac and only 80% at 240ac?
 
Seasonic makes some of if not the best PSUs and their prices are usually very competitive.

As far as efficiency the 92% rating is at 50% power on 115Vac. With 240V it might require a higher load to see the same efficiency. It depends on the design and components used.

Maybe so, I do like Seasonic PSU's, I'm not knocking it, just wondered really.

I'm assuming you're referring to the 80% efficiency value derived from the 80 Plus moniker, in which case it would take a wall of text to explain, however this particular unit should see ~80% efficiency values only at loads lower than 10%, which should be rare occurrences on systems requiring such power and bear no relevance on the overall power signature. :)

We need all black cable and we need it now.

I'm using the 1000w model, and the mix-color cable is a huge turn off.
 
Did they ever fix the coil whine? As long as their psus make that noise they're on the no buy list.
 
id buy that any day! looks absolutely solid!

however, the back of that (connectors) is exactly the same as mine as well as the hybrid switch lol

Really? You don't notice it through the shroud on mine.

Both the 550-watt Gold that I got for someone else and 1000-watt Platinum I have in my rig now are practically silent. Forget coil whine, you barely hear the fan if it's even spinning (I know, sounds scary but it runs really cool.)

do you have hybrid mode on?

my fans rarely spin up (need i think 60+% power usage) and mine being a 1kw (overkill) stays cool, ive never felt it hot.
 
No Seasonic 1200w 80 Plus Platinum models show up here:

My guess is it won't show up until after it goes on sale. Long story short, Platinum certification (115V internals) requires 90% efficiency at 20% load, 92% efficiency at 50% load, and 89% efficiency at 100% load.

Until it shows up on the above website, it's efficiency claims may be fake.


FYI, Enermax has lots of 80+ Platinum certified PSUs reaching all the way up to 1500w:

The fan spins on my Platimax albeit slowly (enough to stop hot air from pooling). The higher the efficiency, the less heat produced as waste. That's a huge advantage of investing in high efficiency PSUs.

I'm pretty sure that one the 1000w Platinum set to Hybrid mode, the fan will shut off if the temperature is low enough. The standard setting keeps it spinning, albeit like yours, very slowly. I have no complains about it, that's for sure.
 
I don't think my Platimax has any fan settings. It's completely temp-controlled with a floor voltage so it spins when it is on. I'll be honest though, I haven't paid much attention to it. Both Platimaxes I have installed have the PSU at the bottom facing down. The only way to tell if it is running is to tip the whole tower over and look. I've never done that.
