it all depends on the distro. ubuntu being the choice of valve because of its large community and ease of driver/hardware installation. it will only get better the more companies like valve get involved.
Yea, I didn't have any issues with AMD drivers installing Ubuntu 13.04 on my Laptop with an AMD A6 APU. Ubuntu will pick the best up-to-date driver.
I still say the Steam Box will run Steam's own OS, and leave nothing for the user to do maintenance wise. It will just work like the Google ChromeBook. Everyone forgets and I don't mean you, but for most users they think anything Linux is free... Linux it self is free and free for anyone to make changes to and make profit for those changes (e.g. RedHat). Android to an extent is like this with having to buy new hardware to stay up to date and I'm not talking about rooting the phone, and obtaining your own update that's a different story. I just hope Valve offers the Steam Box distro via ISO for users that want to make there own SteamBox.
