Its clear as crystal which city Take-Two is imitating in Grand Theft Auto IV - New York. The trailers and screenshots of the upcoming sequel don't leave another choice for the setting. There is the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Cyclone in Coney Island, where else could this game take place then?
This preliminary information made it's way to New York's politicians who were, to put it mildly, not very pleased with the whole situation. I quoted some of their sentences out of an article from the New York Daily News:

"Setting Grand Theft Auto in the safest big city in America would be like setting Halo in Disneyland," said City Councilman Peter Vallone, chairman of the Council's Public Safety Committee. ...
"The mayor does not support any video game where you earn points for injuring or killing police officers," said Jason Post, a spokesman for Mayor Bloomberg. ...

Quite a fuss around a video game if you ask me.

apparently no one has caught on to the fact that these statements just make kids think the game is cooler

cause we all know kids and teens love anything that there parents say is bad
with that said its time for the SEX,:toast: ,:rockout:

Frankly, I feel that politicians coming out against games like this just brings more publicity to kids. The GTA series is meant for adults and adults only. Politicians, please STOP promoting these games to kids and leave it alone.

lets leave the game making to the game makers, and the politicians can go back to there election rigging and gerrymandering...

Hell, I live in Milwaukee. I would be honored if GTA was made here, plus Milwaukee is the perfect example of a high-crime area with perfectly ignorant dumb-assed politicians! And, yes I realize it will never happen, so don't bother with the posts: "never happen".

That's never gonna happen :p

Anyway, I love the way that all the politicians are kicking up a fuss but half of their kids probably play the GTA series (and might buy this one) anyway

They would have nothing to worry about if they didn't fear there was some truth in it... but Halo in Disneyland sounds fun!!!

Edit: Bastieeeh, you need to take a look at this sentence ;) :

Should read more like "This preliminary information made its way to New York's politicians who were, to put it mildly, not very pleased with the whole situation."

here here :toast:

and if i may say one thing.............

ITS A GODDAM GAME, GET ON WITH WHAT YOUR PAID TO DO INSTEAD OF PISSING THE PUBLICS MONEY AND TRUST IN POLITICIANS DOWN THE TOILET. :shadedshu :banghead:

oh and no one likes a smartass :p

Depending on how this pans out this could turn out bad for them. They could (in the best interest of the state) consider the game contraband and black list it. Some may not agree but it's clear they stepped on some toes with people who can make it happen.

i know this has been discussed in a thread in recent weeks, but these so called "free countries" we live are getting worse and worse, it makes me sick.

"Setting Grand Theft Auto in the safest big city in America would be like setting Halo in Disneyland"

OMG!!! - Fixed!

Disneyland would make a good Halo map :)

That is retarded. Obviously they have never played any of the GTA games. Just because you have the ability to kill cops, only the immature kids who haven't played it would go around killing cops the whole time and "getting points for it". The story is where its at.

Agreed Batou.

Anyone recall that CSI episode where they did just that in a video game?

Can you even get points in GTA? Ammo maybe... but I don't think points were ever involved?

What about all of the Hollywood films that make the City look like a piece of S?

Deus Ex was set in an obliterated, fascist New York. They should retroactively ban that game.

What about all of the Hollywood films that make the City look like a piece of S?

What about all the films full stop?

Games get so much more criticism despite being no worse that them in most situations - GTA only gets such a bad reputation because it is the most successful game which can be argued to be morally wrong. Think of all the GTA clones that get away with it... and all the other violent games...

Hah, come kiddies.. meet the nice man who wants you to eat sugar though your nose :D

Rockstar will be loving the free publicity this story is getting them. Politicians are such idiots about this kind of thing but they cant help opening there mouths.
