R600 family compatible to AGP - Full PCGH interview

At the CeBIT the guys from the PC Games magazin interviewed ATIs Vijay Sharma and because of their tight schedule just focused on a single story first. Sharma said the R600 will be compatible to the AGP to PCIe bridge called Rialto, which means that Add-In-Board (AIB) Partners could manufacture AGP cards based on the R600 family (R600/RV610/RV630).

this is a good move by AMD to strike some brand loyalty with the remaining AGP users no doubt these uses will be more likely when they eventually switch to pci stick with AMD brand graphics cards. I think this move may force nvidia to reconsider its position regarding the remaining agp user.

I think this is a nice move by AMD/ATI. They realize there is a still an overwhelming market for the AGP customer. And it is true, alot of folks are still clinging to AGP. I dont know of any boards made today that cater to AGP (would be nice to see a mid range OVERCLOCKING board)

problem is AGP users will get a downgraded version which uses less power, cos there is no possible way an AGP users computer will have the power slots needed to power one of these beasts. And if AMD expect AGP users to buy anything like a power supply then its just not gunna work...

uh why is everyone so concerned about the power its not like because i use an agp board i have to use some outdated POS power supply

anyway this is great news i wouldn't mind getting a mid range dx10 card wile i wait for a decent K10 Pci-e 2.0 setup to come out

and the only reason agp systems bottle neck now is because of the lack of any decent cpu support for agp

to further prove my point look at the benchmarks for 1950pro agp vs pci-e most games get a -/+ 1 fps difference point being the pci-e bus has only one advantage SLI/CF

Let's hope there is a low power AGP version... so that we can swap a X800/X850 device for the new R600 WITHOUT having to buy a new PSU also.
