AMD is preparing to expand its performance-segment socket AM3+ processor lineup, steering clear of the 220W TDP of its FX-9000 series. The two chips are the FX-8370, and the FX-8370E. The FX-8370 will likely replace the FX-8350 around the $180 mark; while the FX-8370E will be its energy-efficient variant. Both chips offer clock speeds of 4.10 GHz, with 4.30 GHz TurboCore frequencies. While the FX-8370 has a rated TDP of 125W, the FX-8370E features 95W, without a reduction in clock speeds. The FX-8370E could hence come at a slight premium.

Both the FX-8370 and FX-8370E are eight-core processors based on the 32 nm "Vishera" silicon, featuring four "Piledriver" CPU modules that have 2 MB of L2 cache each, and 8 MB of L3 cache shared between the four modules. The chips feature dual-channel DDR3 integrated memory controllers, with native support for DDR3-1866 MHz, and 5.2 GT/s HyperTransport 3.1 system bus. Instruction-sets include AVX, AES, SSE4.2, FMA3, and XOP. The chips will run on all existing socket AM3+ motherboards, with some needing BIOS updates.

How much longer is AMD going to beat the dead horse that is Vishera. It really is time for a new architecture.
 
I for one would like to see what that new 8370E would do given some juice seeing as its a 95w TDP chip.... really quite impressive from AMD.

However, the trolls and fanboys will be inbound soon to proclaim their epenis is bigger because they own ZXXXZX stuff rather than XXCZXZ stuff..... hence a thread degrading time which will be a shame.






Least anyone forget; the better AMD perform/are as a whole, the more everyone profits... even Intelites. :toast:
 
95W for a 4.3GHz Piledriver CPU is an engineering achievement, but is there actually a market for such a CPU? The number of people who can reap the energy savings of the 8370E over the 8370 is minuscule at best considering that AMD usually prices its energy efficient processors about 15% higher than the standard processors.

My 8350's run full load 24/7 (crunching) so that chip should fit my needs quite well! :)

* If they do actually run 95w I may try a downclock/undervolt and go for 65w :D

Probably until 2016. As they said they will have new ark around that time. That will make it around 1.5 years.
 
There's another 8320E coming too. And also a new budget AM3+ chipset, according to CPU-World.
 
fx8370e base clock is 3.3 GHz not 4.1

If true then AMD's "E" processors seem a lot like Intel's "S" processors - they're not significantly more efficient; they just have caps on their TDPs.

In lightly threaded workloads they will perform the same and in heavily threaded loads they will perform worse than the standard versions due to being TDP limited (lower turbo speeds).

AMD, you just got 5 sales... my crunchers could use an "upgrade". Maybe I'll manage to sneak another in ;)

Yea I'm hoping AMD launches something new in 2015. So far 2014 is basically APU's in binned GPU's. I also realy wish they would make up their minds about AM3+. Either EoL it and announce a new socket, switch to FM2+ for everything, or stop releasing AM3+ CPU's that are at this point quite a bit dated.
 
That shows there is demand for AM3+ (and FX). If they have few brains working to release next FX (X8+) version on this or different socket then it will be interesting.

Why? wasting your time man! at that clock/voltage your stunting progress to say the least but hey what do I know, I've only changed hands a few years ago so maybe things changed but I doubt it :confused:
 
We have multiple sources saying different things about this FX 8370E...I guess we need some more confirmation on this...Guess its back to google for a bit lol.

Or it could be that AMD needs to keep the AM3+ ecosystem viable because the alternative for both them, motherboard makers, and the user base is ????
If bringing out new iterations of an architecture showing signs of age "shows demand", there's hope yet for Itanium

Intel isn't doing any better. Just stagnating their CPUs. GPUs have been similar with the amount of rehashing both NV and AMD have done.

In a way it is a good thing because it gives devs more time to focus on tuning and not expecting there to always be more speed.

Yup - my "24/7 crunching" FX-9590 should maybe be converted to a FX-8370E - just to claim that I care about the enviroment :-)
 
If it's an 8 core, it will be interesting for those who need multithreading over single threaded performance. After all, Intel is just tossing out 6 cores and those are on jolly expensive X99 platform. You can stick this one on an existing AM3+ board. Maybe not a crown stealer but certainly a nice option. And if it can be (over)clocked higher, it might not be all that bad.

AMD should release a 2 CPU motherboard and CPU. If you can't beat them with 1 CPU you can try using 2 CPU's. This would force Intel to make their own 2 CPU chips and boards cheaper.

That entirely depends on what you consider progress. I really consider the Intel's Atom C2750 progress in the sense that it's a powerful 8-core SoC in a 20-watt TDP package. Just because performance isn't improving doesn't mean other things aren't and I've been disappointed with the lack of milestones like this from AMD. The power consumption card is a good one to play IMHO.

I think we need better Software IMHO rather then faster CPU's, what we have now is plenty powerful enough, its the crappy software we have that makes it all seem slow, need to take advantage of all the cores/threads we have now before making faster CPU's?
