Thats awesome!
You should make some drive bay covers out of wood also, maybe spring load them so they pop open when the drive opens :D

no... its using 8x lanes.. I switched the jumpers.. ;)

I thought about making a wooden cover, I may for the bottom, but for the top I cant, as the CDrom doesnt go all the way in (its a PITA to make those slots the way I did.. dado it big enough for a cdrom to slide in...).

I plan on making a new one, but it may wait til after graduation :(

Nice job man, but doesnt it get hot/?

The case or the video card?

The case stays very cool, I have 2 90MM fans blowing in, and 2 out @ 50CFM each, and I can turn my tornado up to full speed if I need to, the bottom fan in the window blows directly into the video card heatsink, giving it fresh air :)

if you are referring to the smaller square in the center being disproportional, its because you have to allow a certain amount of space when you are cutting wood. If he made it a smaller gap, it would be too unstable and break easily. Or are you saying the smaller square should be bigger? cause the smaller square in the middle is a little off center

They dont assuming you design it to actually move air..

design is important :D

I have many aluminum cases that perform terribly compared ot this..

Doesn't look bad, however mr Faraday won't like it. I've seen a similar mod before, though it used thicker wood which looked worse.

wood species

From the picture, I guess the case used solid oak. To save some money, I am giong to use pine. Does anyone have any problem with pine board? Like cracking or warping

I used red oak because it was a much harder wood.

Pine is soft and will be dented, scratched and wont take much of a beating.

I would actually just suggest thinner wood along the front/top/bottom/back, I used I think 3/4" and it was a fun piece to cut.

And my door implemention is far from optimal. Consider EVERYTHING when designing it.

Design twice, cut once. (In something like this, draw it all out. to scale is best)

Thanks for quick feedback.

I am not worying about the fact that pine is soft. PC case will not be beat up like other furniture. I am just worrying about cracking and shape change.

I am going to use thick board (1-1/8" for top/bottom and front/back, 3/4 for side) and try to hide everything to make it look like just a piece of furniture. Any suggestion?
