Seagate Technology plc, a world leader in storage solutions, today announced at Gamescom the new 2TB Game Drive for Xbox, the result of a strategic marketing relationship with Microsoft. This new external drive is designed to complement the Xbox color scheme and is set up for an easy plug-and-play connection with an Xbox One or Xbox 360 gaming console.

"With all of the new and amazing titles expected for this holiday season and a ton more games coming in the future, Xbox gamers will need even more storage and portability," said Matt Kesselring, business development manager for Microsoft's designed for Xbox partner program. "Microsoft is privileged to be working with Seagate as our trusted partner for this important designed for Xbox peripheral."

With today's game installs averaging 35-50GB, space on the console to support a robust library of Xbox games becomes highly valued. With the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox, you will no longer need to delete games to make more room on the console's library. The Seagate Game Drive for Xbox is a USB 3.0 connected drive with a green top-case and black body, embossed with both the Xbox and Seagate logos. The compact and portable Game Drive for Xbox enables the capability to take your catalog of downloaded games and achievements for continued game play on any Xbox One or Xbox 360 console1.

"This exciting new collaboration with Microsoft Xbox is an important milestone for Seagate that will help us to reach a new audience, which has an insatiable appetite for storage," said Jeff Fochtman, senior director of product marketing for Seagate. "There was a clearly defined need in this market for additional plug-and-play storage and Seagate is happy to be able to provide the solution."

Pricing and Availability:
The Seagate Game Drive for Xbox will retail at a MSRP of $109.99 USD and will be available from GameStop, Amazon and other consumer electronic retailers worldwide.

So it's just a regular USB drive, but overpriced because it has "XBOX" written on it. Great.

No. I have a WD 500GB external USB drive and no performance is hindered. It is also USB3.0.

that is not all of the info you were needing

2.5" drives usually dont need external power, but this is only one consideration

2.5" drives cost more than 3.5" at equivalent storage sizes

3.5" almost always has external power, in a way it gives you peace of mind that it wont have issues during spin up or in general having the usb port/cable always transmitting power

3.5" might be faster or at the very least you can buy larger sizes or potentially fewer platters (i'm just speculating on this one, need to research)

3.5" might be slightly more durable since it has larger components or it might be lower temperature? (again speculation)

considering a ST1000DM003 is ~$55 & is over 100mbytes/s sequential at all times peaking at 200mbytes/s on the edge, i would just dump that into an enclosure (which isnt technically needed either, just a sata/usb3 adapter with wall power)

So it's just a regular USB drive, but overpriced because it has "XBOX" written on it. Great.
$110 for an already enclosed 2.5" 2TB isnt quite overpriced

do you leave them powered on at all times? or shut them off when turning off system? thats the last thing i need to know :p

I do have 2 500GB sata drives and an enclosure would be cheaper.

why would i leave something powered if i'm not using it? i have heard of people that buy external drives & leave them 24/7... that sounds incredibly stupid unless the enclosure has a fan (speaking of which, ya i guess an enclosure WITH A FAN is a better idea than ghetto rigging... i only use that adapter since i took out a hard drive cage full of 3 drives from a desktop to put on the table)

the other consideration is the model drive, a lot of times green ones act funny, park heads, or are less reliable, so it's always a good idea to just choose a drive you know is good & pair it with a nice enclosure
