o_O Cooler Master Hyper 212X has existed for ages now, last year I built a PC for my friend and I had used 212X as the 212 EVO was discontinued.

Also I am not sure who sent those photos for PR but that fan doesnt look like the one that comes bundled with cooler.

Over two years IIRC, probably even three, first saw it on Flipkart for something like $35 in today's exchange rate.

Funnily enough just bought the Evo (imported) in Dec.15 for less than $15 :shadedshu:

They should've discontinued the EVO right after the 212x was launched, worldwide :rolleyes:
 
for 15€ less, LC-CC-120 looks like soo much better value.
 
I've got the 212 EVO. Awesome cooler. I'm not sure there's much to improve about it, the identical looking newer model doesn't seem to make much sense.

The erstwhile 212x had a Fan with 4th gen Self-Lubricating POM Bearing (160,000hrs MTBF) & the all new Aluminum Fin Array with New Tunnel Effect layout for improved heat dissipation. Don't know where this abomination (RR-212X-17PK-R1) came from but the slightly (better) model still exists o_O

I really wouldn't say it is an awesome cooler. The mounting is garbage, performance is entry level and have I mentioned the mounting is garbage?

How is it garbage? I had no problems installing it.
I am using it to cool delidded 3770K overclocked to 4,4GHz. The heatsink hardly gets warm at all.

If the heatsink hardly gets warm and the CPU does, that would kind of explain what I am getting at. Also having installed literally hundreds of them the mounting sucks, it allows movement if the case is jostled at all and fuck installing it. There are hundreds if not thousands of better options for mounting that cooler.
 
Well, show me what non-garbage mounting system looks like, compared to this.

Also I have no idea what it explains when my temperatures across all cores don't exceed 80°C when running Prime95. For a cooler that cost fragment of those huge ass brick coolers that's one hell of a value.

So the cooler is barely hot to the touch yet the CPU is at 80C which is coming up at the temperature that water boils...

As for non-grabage mounts any of the screw to the cooler, then attach to the board ones would get my vote. Cooler master knows how to make mounts that work the V10 would be an example.

Yeah, people also loved their Volkswagen buses (they were also air-cooled junk with LOW performance). Except for the poor schmucks who were stuck behind them in traffic!

My 9370 runs cooler than that while putting out what 3-4 times the wattage under a 5 year old coolermaster v10. So yes, it is better than stock and that is it.

I can partially agree, it isn't the worst cooler to install, by far, but it's not exactly a good mounting system if it requires 3 hands and a little luck to install, as the 212 series does. :-)

No not the worst, but of the commonly sold products I dislike it. It is better than stock. That is what I will give it.

The v10 would be an upgrade to the 212x so it should perform better , but not in the same price to performance ratio Triple the price
