BGA Chip Removal - Will it be damaged?

Alright so being a bit of a nutjob, I have started a small collection of CPUs.. But really, I also want to delve into GPUs. Seeing as they are BGA soldered to the PCB, I will have to hot-gun them off. The technique seems to be warming it up, will gently moving the chip. It should eventually let go ASAP.

My question is.. We will be hitting temps of 200 celcius. Even though no current is hitting the chip, Would the silicon be damaged? I mean to be fair, the chips are truthfuly put through a similar process when they are mounted to the PCB.. right?

I don't know if it'll hurt the silicon itself, but I really doubt it will every work again. I mean what's the intent, to mount it to another card or something?

You are collecting it, not for use but for keeping, so no problem.

Consider getting a small oven (don't do that in the one where you put food, fumes will be released, put it on the balcony)

If you intent is just to collect them then why care if they're still in working order or not

I was going to suggest bake it but he said he had a heat gun that'll do the job

Use the heat gun on the back of the PCB with the chip underneath, it should loosen it enough to drop off.

That is what threw me too. It sounds like he wants them working for some reason? Or does he just want the silicon to "look nice?"

Well to be honest I would just like to have the chips first and foremost, but if they work or are still "intact", that would be the way to go.
