Nintendo announces: NES Classic Edition

Nintendo has just announced the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, “a near-identical, mini replica of Nintendo’s original home console” that plugs into your high-definition TV using an included HDMI cable. The device, which launches on November 11 in North America and Europe, includes 30 NES games built in, including Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, and Kirby’s Adventure. It’ll retail for $59.99.

Good-ish list. Switch out Castlevania II for III and if you include Star Tropics should also have Star Tropics II. This of course is moot if we can hack it to hold more ROMs, we will have to see in November. Otherwise I still have my original NES case and it can hold an ITX board (just barely) but with mini-STX just around the corner, it'll be even easier to make a themed emulator box for NES through Wii.

Since I brought it up, the Gaming Historian has a bit on Star Tropics. Good channel.

None knows yet , but I'm sure it is an off the shelf SOC. For that price I doubt there is Nintendo proprietary things in there.

In addition to the NES Classic Controller, the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro are also compatible with the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition. Both can be plugged directly into the console; however, when using two controllers, one of them must be the NES Classic Controller.

The new NES Classic Controller has a different connector than the original NES controllers and accessories, so they are not interchangeable.

Are there plans for coming out with other mini systems like the SNES?

We have nothing to announce at this time.

We're thinking about getting one in my family. It would be simpler for everyone to have a console that runs this stuff, and my fiancee is a fan of the original nintendo controller, so it's a pretty good thing for us to have. It doesn't really cost a lot, and it would be worth it to have some games she can still play.

of course it's emulation it's a plug and play but it's licensed by Nintendo so it's a big deal.

I guess Nintendo chose to not create a more expandable, more complete cheap console. It would have been nice if the console could be upgraded with more games.
On the other hand, games from the 80s being simple platform games and not realistic bloodbaths, are better in my opinion, for little kids.

Nice it uses a HDMI Cable I might just get one of these I remember the games from when I was a child and my grandpa owning and working in a video store sometimes took the NES home so my dad could borrow it but I gamed on it
