FRAPS to Make a Comeback with Windows 10 Support

Did you seriously register simply to snip at someone over a comment?

No, I registered because I have read ignorant comments like that for years. Nothing is stopping people from writing their own program, except that they are sitting on here saying "if I were the programmer".. Fine, Be that guy.. Program. It's free to do it, just requires the time spent posting comments to actually start trying. But instead of actually doing something, it's easier to be a keyboard critic that says 'I would (meaning I'm too lazy to) do this"

You seem to have completely forgot the main reason why people use FRAPS: Easy FPS benchmarking. OBS doesn't provide that. You can't compare the two, fraps isn't just about recording.
There are enough software to do that. FRAPS reason of being is recording, it was the only affordable and friendly software back in the day to do that and it has aged quite bad since the support dropped and competition came.

Of course. The key of every problem is doing it yourself and don't ever complain because you can do everything. Even if the task would take years of free time you don't have to accomplish or simply you are a customer who paid a product and want it to work properly. How preposterous of us.

^^Hates people who complain or offer critique.

Joins to complain and critique.

Life's a bitch huh.......

I stopped using Fraps due to performance hits, I would rather use the inbuilt hardware.

Does it not work? I thought it worked, by like steevo above me said, it has a performance hit. I don't think anywhere the person I initially quoted said "it doesn't work". I mean, if that had been the case, then it would have been completely different and my reply would have been completely different.

It's weird that we live in a world that has 1000 variants of one tutorial, and millions of different tutorials, and people still think that nothing is possible.

LOL! I simply stated a fact, and it is considered complaining? It's funny that 3 people have now quoted me, and the original person that I was replying to hasn't said anything else about it. I enjoy reading the replies :)

In case neither of you two actually took the time to read my initial comment, I was simply telling the original user they could turn the FPS counter off, and use the in game monitor through console.. That is a fact, and the original reason for posting. It was after that when someone else asked if I had joined simply to reply. Yes, I simply joined to tell someone that they can actually get rid of part of their problem.. and that they could program their own software. It's weird how that brought all of this about. But who am I to judge? I am just to here to complain, lol.

Good, I own the full version and it just doesn't compete anymore.. Resource hog for one.. Shadowplay has it beat currently.

Fraps is one extremely robust CPU based encoding capture software. It never crashed once over the years I played around with it. However I could never get satisfactory output from it due to hardware limitations. When I purchased Fraps, my PC included a 3GHz Pentium 4, Asus P4C800-E Deluxe mobo, 1GB of RAM, an MSI FX5900 Ultra, and striped WD 74GB 10,000RPM Velociraptors with Windows XP Pro on them. That was a top-end PC back then. For Fraps it was *not* *good* *enough.*

Actually, the recording drive was the C:\ drive which is *ALWAYS* a no-no for recording to. I maybe could have had a few success stories had I build a non OS RAID array, but was ignorant about such matters at the time.

Thank nvidia and amd for hardware based encoding. I can record 1440p60Hz stutter free videos and it doesn't affect what I see on-screen.

BTW Fraps 3.5.99 is not new. It's 3.5 years old.

I usually don't replay to dick trolls. And FYI not all off the games are having FPS counters through console, or menu even...

Open Broadcaster. Easy to capture: fullscreen, screen region, selected window, video source (webcam etc) Supports all possible hardware encoders (nvidia cuda / intel quicksync) Can broadcast or record video. Freeware.

I guess i never thought about using OBS to record gameplay and saved to my computer. I dont think i have that option enabled. I just use it to broadcast to my twitch for my stream.

hell a lot of AAA games dont even have access to the console.

Naaah... who uses Fraps anymore since MSI Afterburner does everything? ;)

I used fraps alot on windows 7 then win 10 broke support.

i then switched to adobe captivate which does the job but I still prefer fraps for its simplicity so I will try this new version when its out.

And for those complaining about HD space a 1TB HD is under a $100 stop being cheap lol.

Try using it on a DX12 title. ;)
i just tried it in Forza and it doesnt work. its the only dx12 title i have. in every other game i have played in win10 it works though.. so no dx12 support i supose.. its good that they are fixing it.

Not so much the space but speed as well. A 1TB SSD still isn't cheap and a lossless 10 minute file is like 45GB.

I dont see the need for this program MSI AB does a better job with less lag. I would never use fraps again.

Couldn't one raid 0 two 1 TB HD's instead and you get speed and a capacity boost still cheaper than a 1TB SSD.

I always had stutter issues trying to record lossless unless it was to an SSD.

You know, AS a programmer, I actaully LIKE feedback like that because it tells me what the market wants.

I guess I'm just crazy though.

Nothing seems to have happened at all with Fraps since this article was published a year ago. Anyone know of any updates? Googling doesn't turn up anything.

Haven't seen anything.... Beepa doesn't appear to have released any news...
