1080 only a few FPS better than 1070 in 1440p?

From a few benchmarks I've looked at it seems that the 1070 especially when the 1070 is OC is really close to a 1080.

I'm wondering should this gap be bigger?

And does the lack of a gap make the 1070 a better deal?

Taking that at face value yes, it's a much better deal.

However, the GPU is fairly cut down compared to a GTX 1080 so bigger differences will show up at high resolutions with lots of details in the most demanding games.

Ultimately, the performance increase of the better card never makes up for the increase in price though, of course. It's all about whether you're willing and able to pay the increase for the performance offered.

yea even my old 290x was but I want to max out my games and maintain 90FPS with reprojection off.

As others have said, the 1080 if you want to max things and have the money. It'll probably last a while too.

Yea ended up selling my 290x for 200 and bought an Asus 1080 Strix.

Assume you have already spent some time in your Vive. I hope you will now see that FPS no longer matters that much in VR. It is either you CAN run it or you started to feel dizzy and wanna vomit due to GPU lagging behind. It is a pretty clear line now. I would say go for 1080 and crank up all the AF or AA goodies. Make sure to come join the TPU VR club. VR is the future and the master race.

i am just asking because if i play i play online fps up to 4 to 6 hours and i cannot see me with these googles on sitting 4 to 6 hours?
i think this is like 3d(and that is dead) for homeusers-so not the future for home gaming.
did not try it so just my opinion

Longest I have been in VR was 8hrs straight. Then my Vive controller battery ran out. I watched couple of movies in Theater mode.used big screen mode for some youtube. The majority of time i was playing the lab and universe sandbox 2.

Fury X is more than capable to handle any VR I throw at it as of now.

You need to measure it based on your monitor hz requirements and whether or not the GPU can consistently hold matching frame rates. If you play at 60hz, then the 1070 may be more appealing with it's ability to meet 60fps. If you play at 96hz or higher, then the 1080 is much more capable from what we've seen at getting to that mark and holding it.


This isn't another GTX 970 OC vs GTX 980 scenario, not even close.
