Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming Fan Spikes

The BIOS update won't eliminate the noise, just the frequency of which it occurs. I'm no expert on fans but I suspect it might be bearing related. I've heard audible sounds from many fans when they start up with my experience in PC hardware.

So this is due to the fact that the fan accelerates from 0 to 1200 RPM? I mean everything , because he is not gaining RPM gradually ? Important thing is that this is a problem on all graphics cards Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming, then the problem should be solved by Gigabyte (I hope so)

Yeah it happens when the fan goes from 0 to any RPM. You seem worried about it, I'd recommend you use a custom fan curve in the mean time while we wait for the latest BIOS update.

Actually, I wasn't much worried, I just want to figure out, Is there a graphics card GTX 1080 G1 Gaming without this problem? According to this thread, all Gigabyte graphics cards have this problem, so I don't need to replace my graphics card. If this mass problem, then we don't need to worry about it, because Gigabyte should take care about us.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it may affect all G1 GTX 1080 cards, especially if your ambient temperature is higher than normal. I saw one review on NewEgg mentioning the problem.

I could sell my card without a loss due to the low stock of 1080s but I'm keeping this bad boy, it works well.

20% is a good base for fans, its still pretty much silent. With other case fans in your computer you won't notice any more noise. i hae eVGA ACX and even at 70%, yea i can hear it but its pretty quiet and even 100% isn't that loud.

10% minimum is still audible, 20% minimum is what I recommend with the G1 GTX 1080. I haven't tested this with the new BIOS however.

I owned EVGA cards in the past, but none had a fan stop mode. I would only hear a noise when I boot the PC.

I run dual EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti SC GAMING ACX 2.0+ w/Backplate custom fan profiles are different on each but its basically 35C=35% 40C=50% 50C=60% 60C=70% 65C=80% and anything more is 100% even with an overclock of +122 on the clock and +188 on memory +6mv they never get over 60C Witcher 3 will get them around 57-58 with DSR 2.0 @1080p HD and all settings maxed. I havent heard how loud the 1080s get but I rarely hear my fans running faster than 60% with this fan profile. I have solely used EVGA cards for the past 7 years and I have never heard one make a grinding sound at startup.

I have a 1070 G1 Gaming and am having the same issues as the OP. As far as I know the 1070 has the same cooler as the 1080.

Every time the fans rev up they do a little buzzing/rattle noise, and at the default profile, when the fans starts, it spikes between 0 RPM and about 1200 rpm before stabilizing. It doesn't matter if I set the profile to 15% (which is about 800 RPM) it will spike to 1200 RPM and then come down to 800.

If I am playing a demanding game the fans will spike once or twice and then carry on normally to higher RPMs. But if I am doing something that is not as GPU intensive, such as watching a HD movie or a youtube video, when the temp comes close to the "Fan on threshold", the fans spikes at least 10 times. It's like it can't start at a low RPM. Not to mention that buzzing/rattle noise it makes every time it starts.

The only solution that I found so far was to set the minimum fan usage to 20%. Do you think that running the fans at 20% all the time could lower its lifespan?

Hello! I have a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming and I have a question for you guys. At the start of the fans on my graphics card, I hear a strange sound (as if the fans of graphics card is something rubs). This sound I hear only when the fans start spinning (during the operation of the fans is not any extraneous sounds). Tell me, please , is this normal? Have anyone have it? Thank you!

Here my video
(Timecode 1:13)

I believe this is completely normal. It just the fans starting to spin.

I've reported to Taiwan that the issue is still there for some users and that it may also happen with 1070 G1. Will update when I have some news.
Thanks for the feedback.

No, it won't lower the lifespan.

Looks like there is a new beta bios posted today for the 1070 g1 variant. (I've been following this thread since I found the discussion. You guys seem to be only ones aware of it.) Nice job Gigabyte with the quick responses and help, much appreciated.

We are working on it.
For the 1070 G1 the F2_beta is an update to F1 and we will have an update for F10 which will be F11 or F11_beta.

Guys, is the grinding noise that the fans make when they start spinning normal? (
- Not my video but my card makes the exact same sound). I worry that this sound may be symptom of a dying fan. Does your cards make the same sound?

Thanks

Yes, at least in my case this is the sound the gpu fan is making. I have gtx 1080 g1 gaming. My bios version is F1.

I found out that if I put my case sideways the noise goes away. I checked and there is no GPU sag in my PC, so maybe a wire beneath the fans is making some kind of contact with the blades.

Its just an anti-dust cycle spins up your fans just for a second then they go to whatever their idle setting is

I'm having this problem as well, and I have a few questions:
- I've downloaded the BIOS, but how do I apply it? Easy Boost fails to install, and VGA@BIOS claims that no NVIDIA drivers are found (though GPU-Z, Geforce Experience, etc. have no problems detecting it). I also looked into NVFlash, but I am not sure which of the downloaded files to use as the BIOS.

This is on a fresh build and fresh install of Windows 10.

There should be some kind of a setup.exe file in a zip file you downloaded. Double click on it and follow the onscreen instructions.

Thanks - at first I thought there was no setup.exe, but then I double-checked because of your post and realized that there is an installer in there after all - it was just named N1080G18.F2, and I did not realize the .exe extension was hidden. I just installed it successfully - fingers crossed the issue goes away.

Greetings from Israel.
I have the same problem with my G1 1070. I've updated my GPU to F2_beta , but the buzzing/rattle noise is still there.
Any news/updates?

I would like to hear an official response from Gigabyte! Whether this is the sound of a problem with the fans or not? I am very concerned about this, I need to replace the graphics card? Or it is absolutely on all graphics cards G1 Gaming?
One guy wrote that he had no such problem but maybe he just does not hear this.
