Well I'm not quite sure what mxm-sig spec says, but most power hungry mxm cards are 200W.
The higher-power cards are oversized to fit in more VRMs, and then the cooling is similarly increased in capacity on the laptops they go into. Hopefully these'll get properly standardized into the spec soon and Dell/Alienware goes MXM again (they switched to soldered with the Skylake refresh).
Ahh that explains a lot. Was stumbled why there weren't any alienwares on these gtx10 -series news, nor their site.

I believe that the 10 series in laptops is a bit overkill and pointless.

1060 "3GB" version would be perfect for HD laptop.
