If they still have 290x's in stock you'll probably get that one as replacement.

But yeah you can always try getting a RX480.

If possible, ask for a RX480 8GB. New features (HDR, H265 hw enc & decoding, better in more than a few DX11 games than 290X-390X) and much less power consumption are reasons to go for it instead of getting the same you had.

You can’t demand anything. At least not unless they give you a card to choose from, or they send you one that is considered a downgrade.
Beside that the best equivalent atm is the 390x.

So what will you get? Depends on what they have in stock. I once sent a 7600GT into warranty, at that time the 400 series just came out, and guess what I got back… a 7600GT.

PowerColor replaced my 290X 4GB with a 390 8GB (very similar in performance).

RX 480 4GB is generally slower than 290X but it consumes a lot less power too.

My 290X does 1160mhz, I would want a 390X personally, but the 480 deal is decent enough and turned out pretty well.
