Although the Netscape name has now all but disappeared from most people's computers, the company (now owned by AOL) has just released version 9 of the once-loved Netscape Navigator. It's still a beta version at the moment, but the list of new features include a refreshed user interface, URL correction, a news menu and sidebar, in-browser voting, a sidebar mini-browser and compatibility with Firefox 2.0 extensions. Of course features like tabbed browsing and RSS feeds are a standard characteristic of modern browsers nowadays, so Netscape is no exception. If you're getting a little bored of your current browser or want to give Netscape another chance, you can download it from here. The complete list of new features can be read here. It's worth remembering that Netscape and Firefox are both based on the same architecture (which is why they can share extensions), so if there are any niggling issues for you with Firefox, Netscape might be worth a try.

netscape was a great browser back in the day.....now that AOL have aquired it you know that their going to rape & abuse that browser with their on spyware & bloatware till the point where people actually wonderd WHY they actually stopped using netscape......

Aol, if it wasnt for all there add's n such id still use them for my isp, they were bout the best for me for speed and reliability bit pricey thou, ill give netscape a bash see how it fairs :)

the mini browser seems cool but it just looks like a skinned version of Firefox. Id use it if anything bad ever happened to firefox that disabled me from using it.....well thats after Opera also fails me.

just die already netscape!

Netscape has lent itself to mozilla, in one remark. Not saying mozilla is netscape or anything, but some of the code and the way it works, mozilla also uses :)

So basically Firefox owns now.:rockout:

I have been scarred for life with the slowness of Netscape on middle school dial-up, I doubt I can ever give Netscape another try :p.

I haven't noticed any major difference between it and Firefox. I'm going to use it for awhile and see how it fairs.

I think the Netscape browser is still relatively independent from AOL - presumably they still use some of the same programmers.
