AMD 1800x Ram overclocking

my setup includes

AMD 1800x
MSI X370 SLI Plus
G.SKILL 32GB (2 x 16GB) TridentZ Series DDR4 PC4-25600 3200MHZ 288-Pin Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C14D-32GTZ
EVGA 700w PSU

Problem is I am unable to OC RAM. I can't modify SOC volt or bclk OC.

I need a suggestion on Motherboard. I can return this msi board and get another one.


How about

I don't need SLI and all I need it OC for my ram. I have a good CPU that easily clicks to 4.15 or 4.175. It's the ram that is stuck. I had Asus B350 and it was running ram at 2133mhz and this msi is running it at 2666mhz but in need 2999 or 3200.

Mine is a duel rank 32GB 14 3200mhz Gkill ram

Please help

I believe that not a single AM4 motherboard supports 16GB sticks @3200MHz right now.
2666MHz is probably the best you'll get right now with such sticks.

Ryzen is new. Bios updates WILL enable faster Ram speeds. AMD is coming out with update optimizations around May 2017 to increase RAM speed support.
4 DIMMs @ DDR4-3200. 2 DIMMs @ DDR4-3200-4000+. And so on. It's coming,

AMD also stressed incoming updates in regards to memory support of its AM4 platform, with updates being pushed to motherboard makers this May, which should enable support for memory at speeds "higher than the current DDR4-3200 limit without refclk adjustments."

I don't want to get stuck with ram that is of no good. Now I can return and get different ram. That is why we am trying to figure out that's best.

I don't see why not. I too plan on Min 32GB Ram. 2 sticks 16GB per stick. Hopefully overclockable or I'll just get DDR4- 3800 or so Ram Speed

atm, it's save to say that dual rank Ram means lower Ram frequencies with Ryzen. If you're fine with that, go for it (you only lose 5% performance or even less). If not, go for the 2x8 GB Flare X 3200 kit.

I will run it at 2666 for now and I am sure if I can increase BCLK it will go up a bit.

Higher speed support and higher density support? The current 3200 limit has already been surpassed though but that does not change the fact the a large proportion of users are either stuck at 2400 - 2666mhz limits or have spent a lot of money buying very expensive Single Rank Samsung memory which kind of destroys the price advantages the platform offers, I am Optimistic that things will improve but the pessimist in me absolutely convinces me that all the woe's are not going to be fixed just yet..... it's just not the AMD way If it were the new AMD way they would have just waited 3 months before releasing in the first place.

What I wrote means: Crosshair #1, Taichi #2, Gigabyte #3, MSI #4 (rest #5), but again it's just a "imho", @cadaveca loves the Taichi.

C6H best? not even it's a hot mess right now far better than launch but there's is still a lot to be desired. You can get 4 sticks @3200 or very close to it but there are a lot of caveats, like you cannot cold boot with those settings. Meaning you have to boot in windows restart, then go into bios, set the ram and timings, pray, exit bios and boot back into windows.

After living with it for a month, I'm getting bitter at how long it's taking them to iron out these teething issues.

From what I've seen it would be my first choice, yeah. I'm also a long time Asus buyer and they never let me down. But understandable that it's not for everyone. The Taichi could very well be better - and I'd still not buy it.

Long-time Asus user myself this is my 4th board from them (C2F,M3G, C5F, C6H), until this board I would've said the same thing.
