The Scythe Fuma might be quite small for a dual tower design, but should not be looked down upon, offering exceptional performance and little noise. It has all the right attributes to sneak up on and dispatch the competition.

It seems odd they would release a cooler and not include any modern sockets, including Intel's 2011 and on, especially considering it has two 12cm fans.

AM4 mounting kit is available for 4€ incl. shipping.

I find the mention regarding overtightening is a bit funny. Basically points off for reminding not to overtighten lol.

I've this cooler with a Ryzen 1700 oced to 3,8 and using only one central fan, a Nidec Gentle Typhoon 2150rpm PWM. 60º max temp with just about 1400-1450 rpm. Just one degree more that with a D15 I had installed before (which was too tall for my case and that's why I changed to the fuma). The AM4 kit arrived in less than a week (4€). Can't recommend enough this cooler.

I agree should be a negative. Plus, It appears you can mount this only in one direction, doesnt appear you can mount it 90 degrees off.

Good to see Scythe back to making good stuff. I had a Scythe Mugen II a long time again and I loved that thing. It was a create little cooler for cheap.

It's not a new release - it's been out for at least half a year, scythe is just not very quick on sending out review samples. Although I agree, they SHOULD re-package newer batches with AM4 support, but I don't know about the logistics issues with that.

In other news, this or the Deepcool Neptwin? They're both budget twin-tower 120mms.

The other cooler that I like in this price range, one that doesn't get the attention that it deserves, is the CRYORIG H5 Ultimate. (or universal for better RAM clearance)

I originally finished testing on this before AM4 even launched. As has been pointed out upgrade kits for AM4 are available.

So at this point it does support AM4 so moot point.

It also doesn't help that for many Cooler Manufacturers AMD did not communicate final specs for mounting hardware until last minute. Scythe might be well known but they are not huge so likely didnt get the memo until platform launch or just before hand. Cooler was out for a long time before that. Thus no points off for it. If I reviewed the cooler tomorrow and it had no AM4 support yeah then it would be an issue.

It doesnt support AM4 until you pay the fine for the mounting piece needed, that is now a selling point regardless of when the review was completed. Ryzen is a thing. They still should have offered AM$ bracket for free, which, IMO, could have been used as part of a market strategy to increase sales. They still can change that.

What I now dont understand is why post this review 2? 3? months later when people are currently looking at good low noise cooler options for Ryzen. This could be a good choice for the lesser Ryzenz still.

Because Scythe sent it to me for review and I reviewed it? Maybe because it didn't have priority over reviews ready for launch day? Regardless $4 for a mounting kit toward a $47 cooler that can compete with $70-90 offerings while being as quiet or quieter. I guess I should go back and give any cooler I reviewed from around January and drop the scores then cause it didn't support Ryzen at launch.

That is asinine, AMD changed the mounting configuration and failed to notify all manufacturers requiring them to scramble and come up with compatible designs. You could say the lack of good Ryzen capable coolers is because AMD lacks communication with their partners. Does that excuse Scythe? No it does not but the Scythe Fuma was launched toward the End of 2015. So it had been around a full year before I got one in for review. It is what it is. I got one in I reviewed it. When i originally did the testing AM4 was not even finalized yet. For many cooler manufacturers AM4 specs were not available until just before launch in March and are just now getting into full swing with proper support. If a new cooler comes out and fails to support AM4 yeah that is a negative that will be listed but for a cooler launched a year before Ryzen and still got an AM4 upgrade kit yeah non issue for me.

AM3 yes AM4 judging from the kit online it looks like it should be the same but cannot be certain without a kit on hand to verify.

Cool, I am really tempted to buy this one instead of a more expensive macho RT

I thought it was that AMD didnt release the mount config early enough, not that they changed it. Was the original mounting AM3/3+?

I think, for what my opinion is worth, this (bolded) should have been mentioned in the review and that AM4 brackets are available for purchase.
