Why not? Because this is exactly what Intel has been doing slowly but surely on the LGA-115x platform. Why would this be any different? If they can lock out consumers from using Xeon's on one platform, they'll surely do it across all their platforms. It's a great way to prevent consumers to upgrade to a cheap Xeon a couple of years down the road.

I was going to say or the 6c for $400 maybe, but then I noticed they clocked it lower vs higher than the 8c. Dumb move IMO, unless they price the 6c accordingly. It's almost like they're copying what AMD is doing with their lower core CPUs.

Everything 6-12c is listed as LGA 2066, but hopefully the 28 lane limited MBs will be a lot more affordable. I mean I have to think just that limitation alone is a sign of them trying to at least be competitive with AM4 pricing.

At any rate, it appears you at least would have the option to eventually upgrade to an 8c on a MB that fits a 6c. Maybe not a huge deal for AMD, but for Intel it is.

I know it's too soon to get any price or performance info, but I'm already skeptical enough to want to wait out Ryzen's growing pains to see what the final result of their new dividers will be.

Nothing is ever set in stone in the tech industry, things can change pretty fast. I had counted out the Warriors today when they were down to the Spurs by 20 at the half, and as much as 25 prior, but they came back to win. Then again, I'm not sure you can call them an underdog like AMD vs Intel. :laugh:

Intel is a mess with their naming in some cases especially with laptop CPUs. An i7 can be either a 2 core or a 4 core. I wonder how many shoppers see the i7 sticker and assume it's a 4 core?

i-7, i-9 whatever.. Remember way back when they relabeled the pentiums as something else? Besides the motherboard's capabilities like ram slots, DDRwhat's really the difference. They all communicate and process information in the same order i.e. northbridge-->FSB/Cpu, Graphics card, RAM and southbridge-->Everything else. Why not just skip ahead to DDR8 and design cpu's around that, instead of RAM developers having to develop around Intel's restrictions, and the consumer has to buy a new board, cpu, and RAM every 6 months if you want the latest. It's a marketing scam and a damn good one too.
