Microsoft is working on an update to Windows 10, which among several other things, adds a GPU utilization tab to Task Manager. You will be able to monitor each individual GPU in your machine, and Task Manager will give you live utilization stats for the GPU's 3D load, Video hardware-acceleration (encode/decode) load, dedicated memory usage, shared memory usage, and basic driver information such as driver version and date. For now the update is part of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16226; and will make it to the main-release in the coming months.

I like this idea

Next thing you know, they add temperature monitoring in a month or two - and GPU-z is out of business :D

nah, probably not ... as much as i find Win 10 task manager good .... for monitoring i rely on other software ...

aka: CPU-Z/HWFiNFO64/OpenHardware Monitor and BIOS reading are always more accurate than the TM in Win 10 :p so will be GPU-Z (also probably the memory footprint .... )

yep i get it ... you were joking no worries :p

I certainly appreciate it for just having a quick look what's going on

same here, I don't think they will put all that information in task manager. It would be a pretty biog change that would need a lot of work to do.

Yeah, their CPU temperature monitoring put so many people out of business.

Yeah, their CPU temperature monitoring put so many people out of business.
If it worked at least... Last time I had hopes of getting temps through WMI, I got two constant numbers for TZ00 and TZ01... No stress test on any component could change them, so I assumed they were semi-random approximations of my left ear and right ear temps )))
But maybe.... maybe MS will fix it some time before robots take over the world

P.S. But I like the way MS is heading anyways. Their new task manager is awesome, the resource monitor has been adequately polished for a while now. GPU load monitoring also won't hurt. At least for detecting those sneaky mining trojans on customer PCs ))

Are they going to do a detailed monitoring for Resource Monitor tab also?

Wow.....MS actually is doing something good with W10. I like this.

Another 1000TB update ?

Yeah, their CPU temperature monitoring put so many people out of business.

And, frankly, they can't even reliably get CPU clock speed reading correctly. So I'm not that worried.

It is going to be a nice quick tool to check usage, but it won't replace all the other monitoring tools.

Though it would be nice if they told you what tasks were actually using the GPU...

Ok with it as long as it can be disabled, and of course don't interfere with 3rd party applications.

GTX 950, 8gb VRAM, righto good one windows

You get that with other tools like process hacker. It does the task of a task manager & so much more!

Why would you want to disable it? And you won't be able to.

It's 2GB VRAM, 6GB shared RAM, 8GB total.
fair enough, but no one really cares about shared video memory, i would rather it just told us about the gpus own ram and then if windows wants to elaborate on shared memory then just put it on the system ram tab

For the same reason i don't run any other when there is no problems.

What do you mean? It's the task manager. Are you saying you would HAVE to run it, or do you mean just the act of measuring GPU activity would make less of it avaliable to other applications? I have no idea what you're on about.

I know, I'm just saying it would be nice to have that info in Task Manger.

All of that information is provided. It gives total RAM, then breaks it down to VRAM and Shared RAM. Not sure what the problem is...

I like it. Task Manager has come a long way.
