So, you may have heard the news about Manhunt 2. Getting a complete ban, subject to appeal, by the BBFC in the UK, followed swiftly by a AO rating from the ESRB in America - which effectively places great restrictions on where the game can retail although the ESRB is a voluntary system.

Recently contacted by gaming bloggers at Kotaku, both Nintendo of America and Sony Computer Entertainment of America have now confirmed that they will not be allowing titles with an Adults Only rating onto their respective platforms, the Wii and PlayStation 2 and PSP.

With no PC version of the game currently planned, the game is essentially homeless and Rockstar is left with the options of either abandoning the game completely, re-developing it with a less violent theme, or hope to God that an ESRB appeal will lead to a different outcome (not likely).

OMG!!! a game isn't going to make people thing its ok to kill people, if you think it is ok to kill you are already beyond help!

stupid censors! :banghead:

I was actual looking forward to playing this on my wii after all the positive reviews

They didnt mention the PS3 or the Xbox 360, so its still possible to be used. I dont know why folks cant let others make up their minds about video games. I know parents are smart enough to pick out games appropriate for their kids' ages. Hell, I know alot of young kids love pokemon, but they know they arent real!.

I don't care about the AO rating, but I think it's dumb for console manufacturers to ban them from their, umm, well, consoles. lol.

I say there's another option for Rockstar. They should just go rogue, and release titles for what they want, when they want. lol

*BUZZER NOISE* Wrong! Most parents know bugger-all about what video games their children are playing -- games are just something to keep children out of parents' hair.

The wording of this article puzzles me, though -- what does the writer mean about the Playstation 2 being Sony's "respective platform?" Is this just a typo or a nod from Sony that it might be seen on the PS3?

Is the ESRB the BBFC for USA? If so could i still not be released in any other country other than US and UK? Then we will still beable to get it :)

I remember a time when there was no ESRB.

They should just release it on PC, and make it even worse than it is now.

MATURE
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.

ADULTS ONLY
Titles rated AO (Adults Only) have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity.

Trust me, there are a lot of dumb/ignorant/careless parents out there when it comes to that.

They're forgetting Xbox360 :p.

I can see why the Wii might not want this game since they are marketing it as a family console for everyone.

However, I would imagine that Sony would want any game that would sell since they are losing on the PS3.

Hmm XBOX360 would def. be good to make this game for as well since they have a nice spot in the market.

As rap musics makes wannabe gangstas out of some, this game will probably be taken to the next level by a small group of idiots.

In other words I'm okay with the ban

Well lets put it this way, most PArents I know, especially mine, knew what games they were buying. I know when I didnt have a job and was younger, my parents bought my games. There were some I didnt get. OF course, when I have kids, it will be the same way with me.

You my friend, are a genius. :rockout:

I was 10 when Grand Theft Auto 3 was released, and i played that game almost constently, i am 16 now and have never thought about doing anything you do in Grand Theft Auto. Now IMHO, if a violent game, like manhunt makes you want to go out and kill somone, the you are messed up in the head, and just need an excuse for your actions, and the perfect excuse is a video game. Also, your parents should see the game you are playing, if your parents do not agree with the game you are playing, then they can take it back to the shop were it was bought from and get you Pokemon or somthing instead.

Damn, I was looking forward to whacking people with a Wii controller:p

Did you know that smoking pot, proven to make people relax and feel calm, causes people to go crazy, it is proven when all the other facts are ignored.

Again, we have been over this argument, and blaming a game for making you do something is like blaming mcdonalds for making you fat.

False, See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicestershire/3538066.stm

Generally well received by critics, the game created a media frenzy on release, was banned in several countries and was blamed by media as a cause in a UK murder investigation, though police stated it was the victim who owned a copy of the game, not the murderer, and was not connected in any way

ok, i am corrected.
i thought my source would be relieable -.-
:twitch:

I'm glad it's been banned in the UK - companys shouldn't be allowed to make shite games full of pointless gore and have that the main selling point... Rockstar have gone astray, they seem keen to keep their "bad-boy" reputation well remembered.
