It's called electrolyte, with some bigger caps the top some times has a plastic plate over what you normally see on a smaller caps.

It's a purposely made weak spot.

You assume to much, I simply missed who posted it and thought it was the OP.
He is the OP, which is beside point because ...
You see I had a heart attack in May and I died, doctor padeled me back(artery was 100% blocked). I drove myself to the hospital while having the heart attack.
... damn man, welcome back to the living

i didnt assume anything, i replied to your "rant". its you who seems intoxicated, or lost. I am the OP, I am the one who casually mentioned EVGA would be a good choice since they are solid PSU's, You then posted the above comment....where is My "assumption" going too far?

Arent you the same guy who cried cause I didnt buy you GPU?
I dont know where to start with this, other than saying i have NO idea what your talking about.im a grown man, i dont "cry". i do recall you PM'ing me asking price ,and several other details, then posting that you didnt want it(2 months AFTER your "episode" in may), i didnt lose any sleep, but clearly you misinterpreted something.
I come here to help people not win a contest for popularity
you may wanna re-tool your approach & methods cuz this inst that,,,,

Well... that was, ehh, cute... wow.

Anyhoo, prior to the G2 series, evga psus were frightningly mediocre with its regular supernova series. Then the g2 came around rivaling/beating top notch Tier1A power supplies quality and performance but for less money. The g2/g3 and p2/p3 are arguably the best bang for your buck tier 1 psus around.

That rant tho'.... impressive.

Yeah the G2's are amazing I was immediately impressed with the build quality. There really pricey now tho, $95-$110. I paid 70 bucks for mine on Newegg a couple years ago ;)

As far as the rant, yeah I know I'm sorry. I just dont know what some people have in their heads.

My wife asked me yesterday if we could just go to Walmart and get a replacement power supply I actually laughed out loud. If you sort their selection by highest price I think their "best" unit is a logisys piece of crap

Guess I'm retiring my CX550M just a month later after buying then. Should have never sold my XFX Pro Series to that GPU miner person.

To be fair the system isn't even pulling 200W right now, but still. What if I decide to get a 1080Ti at some point.

The CX units are VERY light in weight, which sort-of tells me of their quality. They do get good results in load tests compared to other similarly priced PSU's. Now I am afraid to overclock, I've done that on worse quality power supplies in the past with decent results.

What's impressive is that PSU didn't shut down the system, it's like the protection didn't trip at all. After working for that long, you gotta give credit though.

a lot of people say they are bad units, but it served me Really well personally (obviously thats anecdotal though). it didnt even shut the PC down when the Cap blew, My nephew turned it off due to the Smoke :) . but it looks like the damage was just to the PSU, but we'll see further when i get a replacement.....but id agree that i wouldnt purposely go out & buy one now, just becasue there are nicer units to be had...the way i do it is i tend to buy a unit that sells anywhere from $80 - $100, that is rated accordingly.

They are mainstream budget supplies, if you don't shell out for the modular version. Which I did, and now I regret it. It's only worth it for the modular versions if you know for sure you'll be changing the system setup constantly especially with multiple storage. Plus if it supports over 600W, doesn't seem to make much sense now for a 550W unit, when you consider that all the 12v cables will be used whether you like it or not. And most of the peripheral cables aren't even that heavy or add much clutter on a decent case.

I do like the cables on the (new) versions of Corsair PSU's. much better than the sleeved ones that can get caught by a rear panel of a case or some such.

All in all I'd have to say my power supply experience is limited at best. I tend to buy whatever models serve me well & don't have terrible ratings. goes the same for anything I buy, for example I think ive owned 4 H97 pro4M asrock motherboards :)

I tend to buy a power supplies from corsair, nzxt, evga, seasonic, these days. It used to be sparkle, fsp/fortron, pcpower&cooling.

Heyy the new CXs are pretty damned nice, as you say. They share the same internals as the Vengeance PSUs, but you're not guaranteed to get all japanese caps (which is not an issue). And remember this cap got blown after seven years, in a budget PSU.

The cx aren't bad units. All power supplies have some that fail. I've personally never have had one fail and I've pushed the cx 430 way passed what should be done

Aye that one was very nice indeed, almost legendary, and Seasonic-made iirc. Even the new CXs are probably not that nice.

EVGay=Money Grab. Lie all you want about there quality, but they are a business simple n true.
What a silly comment! :kookoo:

What PSU maker is not in it to make money?

I use and recommend EVGA power supplies almost exclusively these days - with no regrets whatsoever. And while not the cheapest, you can often find them on sale and EVGA often offers rebates to price them in line with other quality makers - who also happen to be businesses - "simple n true".

Back in the day, if a supply had the Corsair brand name on it, it was a quality product. But Corsair (also in it for the money) degraded some of their entry level lines, of which the CX series is one. I avoid the CX line but Corsair top-tier lines are great.

Antec VP450 is a damn good unit and pretty cheap. Otherwise, the Seasonic 520 and 620 watt units have been going on sale lately
Like Corsair, not all Antecs are good, but many are top notch. I have used many in our builds (and IMO, Antec make some of the best quality cases out there - though I am not a fan of some of their "styling" now days). I also like Seasonic supplies.

OP sounds like you'll need a new PSU. Right now the EVGA OEM super nova PSU's are very good. Pick up a G2 that has performance with ripple suppression, has gone through the hot and cold torture test that come close to figures of the P2. I personally went with a P2. Look at pricing and the power you think you need in the G2 line you won't be sorry with a 10 year warranty.

Ive used EVGA warranty for GPU and they are spectacular. You won't see many if any bad stories about thier amazing RMA process. Including cross shipping.

I like most the quiet from eco mode when it's not hot. :)

The other PSU you would want to look at would be a SeaSonic. Not familiar which of those are actually super nova though. Not all EVGA or SeaSonic are OEM super nova. So do your home work if you buy a new one.

Samxon aren't the best stuff and the liquid thing is probably electrolyte that ejected from it. Capacitors are generally quite cheap, if you can solder, it's a cheap replacement, assuming it's only this that went south...

1. Only 850w+ models are 10 year.
2. Superflower, you mean? Regardless any of the g2/g3/p2/p3 are tier1a psus...

naa, his rant was mind rattling, not your response. :)

1. Only 850w+ models are 10 year.
2. Superflower, you mean? Regardless any of the g2/g3/p2/p3 are tier1a psus...

Yes technically I do.....

G2, P2 and T2 are Super Flower Leadex based units with 80 plus gold efficiency

G3 are Super Flower Leadex II, improved.

Thank you for pointing that out. :)

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)

technically you do what???

Also, g2/, p2/3, and t2/3 are gold, platinum, and titanium rated respectively...they are not all 80+ gold. ;)

EVGA Supernova is an OEM Superflower Leadex unit that's what I meant

I called it a supernova OEM and was incorrect that you pointed out. That's what I meant. Hope that clears this up. Sorry OP for going OT. Just pointing out decent PSU and why you might want it rather than just say get it.

An example review of G2 1000 $199 overkill most rigs

Or G2 for $149
