Extreme overclocker Vince "K|NGP|N" Lucido has once again set new performance World Records. Armed with the latest EVGA hardware, a new Intel Core i9 7980XE CPU and Liquid Nitrogen cooling, K|NGP|N was able to overclock the EVGA hardware to new heights, setting the standard for PC enthusiast hardware. Upon obtaining these new World Records, K|NGP|N had this to say:

"Using the new Intel Core i9 7980XE CPU at over 5.7GHz on an EVGA X299 Dark and 4x EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti K|NGP|N's at over 2.3GHz, allowed me to annihilate the existing 3DMark Time Spy World Record at 37,596 points! The new Intel Core i9 7980XE CPU, EVGA X299 Dark and EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti K|NGP|N are incredible!"

In 3DMark Time Spy, Vince was able to get a score of 37,596, a new World Record! With this hardware setup, Vince was able to break a total 4 World Records!

Hardware Used:
  • EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2 Power Supply
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti KINGPIN Edition (x4) - 2,354MHz+ GPU / 12,656MHz+ Memory
  • EVGA X299 DARK Motherboard

I wouldn't say it's easy to tweak and tune the many fine details it takes to hit those marks. Also the binning...

Obviously you have zero knowledge on how professional O.C. is all about, otherwise you wouldn't make that statement. Receiving the equipment for free, doesn't mean that every Joe can break easily any records...jeez.
Seriously.

Yet another useless feat™. To bad you can't hold something like this 24/7. To bad one cannot make a Loop running liquid Nitrogen for 24/7 Operation.

4 Titan Xp cards on LN2 would demolish that score with a 7980XE.

Sadly we won't see it as EVGA don't sell the Titan Xp.

20% luck & 40% skill with an equal amount dedicated to unlimited resources. Most people don't understand how much time you need to establish such records, that you can't takeaway as luck or (free) resources, that is 100% you, though if the manufacturer provides you golden chips then the time gets cut in half or even less.

Those 6GHz were purely for CPU-Z validation and are not bench stable. Look at the numbers again. Roman used somewhere around 5.5GHz for benchmarks.

You guys obviously have NO idea what it's like benching at that level. It's not just try to get a high clockspeed and run the benchmark, there are HUNDREDS of things that need to be tweaked. Memory secondary and tertiary timings, different driver versions, different memory frequency/primary timing combinations, LOD, process tweaks, runtime priority... The list goes on and on. When I was benching SuperPi on Socket 939 I had around 40 Windows tweaks alone - startup items, registry hacks, etc. That was just 2D benching and that's only touching on the software side of things, 3D adds another ton of variables. Vince has arguably more knowledge on this than most of us COMBINED, which is how he has the job he does.

Next, he gets a set number of untested processors. He doesn't have unlimited supply. You'll often see him setting records at a lower clockspeed than his rivals - this is due to him NOT having the greatest CPU around but having the knowledge to get more out of it than others (this comes down to tweaking as explained above). His resources, while large by our standards, are certainly not UNLIMITED.

If anyone can do this, why has he been taking every record time and again for the last decade or more?

How do you think he ended up in his position? Do you think NVIDIA originally went up to him and said, "Hey, you look like a cool guy, do you want to try this thing called overclocking? It'll be fun, just figure stuff out as you go"? No, he has already established himself at the top of his game WITHOUT sponsorship.

This level of overclocking isn't all fun and games. It can be INCREDIBLY frustrating. You can hit a plateau where for several days you can't match your previous best run, never mind exceed it. He burns through literally hundreds of litres of LN2 per week in an attempt to take records.

Lastly, this is the 8,000 HP top fuel dragster of computers. It's not meant to be practical. It's not made for self parking and climate control. There are no electric windows. You can't drive it to work and back. It's make for pure, unadulterated speed and nothing more.

They do, actually, but I have this sneaking suspicion that he's not allowed to hardmod it cause he's not an independent person (nV bans all their vendors from fiddling with Titans in all ways except for hybrid and full-cover liquid-cooling)

With older versions of the Titan which EVGA were allowed to sell they did do the hardmods but with the Titan Xp only available direct from NVidia there is nothing to be gained by benching the cards.

The Titan Xp is actually in competition with everything EVGA produce so it is not in their interests to promote it.:)

How many LN2 pots do you own, I have three. How many phase change units do you own, I have one single phase.

You realize that running subzero is not the same as being a pro overclocker, right?

Hell, I honestly don't know why you brought any of that up.

I owned a number of peltiers which I used on Pentium 3s and Athlon Thunderbirds. I owned a Prometeia Mach 2 GT, chilly1 modded, it ran on an FX-55 24/7 for several months. I owned a Vapochill LightSpeed regassed with R402a. My first LN2 pot was in the mid 2000s and was brazed over a gas camp stove. I have an F1 Dark. I once held the overall frequency record for AM2+. I have (limited) partner support from Asus and Gigabyte.

Guess what? It doesn't matter. None of it makes me a pro overclocker, and you're not one either /shrug

Oh, I also struggled to find you on HWBOT cause you got your own name wrong - you forgot the spaces between each word :D
