NVIDIA "Pascal" and AMD "Vega" Graphics Card Prices Sizzle Stateside

No. Manufacturers just need to play catch up.

It's not like they are opposed to more money. The market will reach equilibrium, mark my words.

I don't think that's true, they are making huge profits with the limited supplies and so is everyone else involved. That's the way economics works.

It's not like people just started using 17 video cards, per person, for mining, this year or last.

But that's not the way mining works. There is only so much investor capital in crypto. The more that mine and sell, the more the coin values drop, the less profit there is for all. This is a prime example of how tragedy of the commons will break the back of crypto-mining eventually and make it unpopular again.

EDIT: Misread your post. You mean the manufacturers? You could be right on that front, actually.

It's a good time to leave my PC shut down for a while and focus on my backlog PS4 games.

tl;dr: Now is not the time for an upgrade.

Makes me happy I got my cards when I did... And I thought I was paying a lot then.

That is why it is best to sell them now while somebody is willing to pay triple. You don't really need them now that Ampere is so close.

Ampere? You mean electric? Mining hasn't profited less than electric in a very very long time.

What is the best time for the launch of Nvidia Ampere GDC 2018 or Е3 2018. this current generation of pascal has been around for years.

So what is the GTX 1070 selling for now?

Newegg has three models in stock at the moment.

He's talking about the successor to Pascal, which according to rumour would be called Ampere instead of Volta.

Oh god I hope the pump on my FuryX AIO doesn't crap out now. I am fresh out of Sapphire warranty and these price for new GPU is just hideous.

Wbs are still made

Prices are so going up in my country (Switzerland), I'm glad I found my Asus ROG 1080Ti almost at MSRP... now CHF918 instead of CHF799 for the cheapest store; some stores already selling them at more than CHF1000...
($1= CHF1)

What are the reasons behind this neverending price rise? I mean aside the mining craze?

...and I've been off the news crew too long, thanks.

There is no aside, really. Just the mining craze.

It looks like the next generation of cards will be very expensive...it looks like a sign of what is coming ... **80 series over 1000$

Well if there are only a few cards left, the highest bidder wins. The price will go up until the miners make very little profits.

small individual minors will not buy them.. they cant afford to.. looking at scan UK.. they are rapidly going out of stock or onto pre-order.. when the price dosnt go up they simply become unavailable..

large miners buy them by the truck load at wholesale prices.. which means they are not reaching the retail outlets..

mining profits died a death a few months back but as crypto prices have gone up by large amounts recently its become profitable again.. hence the new shortage of cards.. i dont see this getting better any time soon..

trog

ps.. i just had a quick look at 1070 prices on ebay.. they are pretty high.. ebay is always a good place to look for pricing trends..

I have 13 GPUs running 24-7 (3 1080ti's, 7 1080's, and 7 1060's) and my power bill is ~$60 more a month. What are you talking about? I mine more than that in a day. For techies, some of you aren't too keen on maths.

where do you live? My power bill spiked so hard when I mined that it was so shocking I stopped that day. more than doubled my bill. I went from $60 to over $160... and I wasn't mining fast enough to make up the difference. also the strain that it put on my GPU just didn't seem worth it.

OH and "keen on math" 7+7+3 = ? typo on how many cards you have or is your math a little off? epic fail either way

+$100 at 10c/KWH would be a +1400 watt load for 30 days 24/7. +700 watts for 20c/KWH.

USA, Arizona. I pay ~$0.10 per KW/h and use about 20 KW/h more per day than before i setup the mining rigs. So it's like $60/month. Most of your electric bill in the US is Fees, very little of your bill is actual power usage.

LOL, yeah that was an epic fail. 17 GPUs. Either way, I paid off my entire setup in under 10 weeks via mining. Best thing you can do is pickup a used 1080ti around $700 on Craigslist and it'll bring in about $7/day. It'll pay for itself in ~7 months and then you got a free card.
