Prices are not as high in eastern europe (still silly high tough). The problem is stock. All 1070, 1070ti and 1080 cards are out of stock at almost all e-tailers. You can still get a decently priced 1070 from some shops who keep stock - found a 1070 from evga for 490$ last week that way - or you can go the second hand route - lots of cards available SH for decent prices - some even come with box and warranty.

Glad I got my 1080 when I did.

If anyone came asking for a 1080p + setup right now, I'd probably recommend a pair of RX 580 4GB cards in crossfire. They cost much less then a 1070 or 1080, are in stock, will work on all mainboards with two PCI-E slots and the latest drivers brought huge improvements in frame-time and performance for crossfire setups. Too bad the 1060 does not support SLi (nvidia cunts)... I have nothing to offer clients who are nvidia fans.

when demand exceeds supply the only way to keep stock is to raise the price of the stock so high that nobody wants to buy it.. this lowers demand until demand meets supply.. assuming the shop does actually want to sell something and not just keep stock..

this dosnt mean everyone that wants a gpu will get one.. but it does mean there will always be some available for those prepared to pay whatever silly price is being asked..

there are some fundermental rules at work here and nothing much can be done about it..

Anything above GTX 1060 are non-existent on store shelves in finland .. over one year old used cards go above their initial prices on second-hand sites.. insanity..

It's not like they are opposed to more money. The market will reach equilibrium, mark my words.
But that equilibrium mean TSCM/GloFo/Samsung have to make huge capital invest in more Fab... The problem is they are making wafers as fast as the can and there's not enough capacity. Will Fab's finally see that they'll need to add more manufacturing for mining when it can be an inherently volatile market? They aren't about to get stuck with under utilized capacity. Until mining can prove long-term sustaining growth, we are where we are...

Graphic card prices go up and CPUs drop in price.
Someone needs to find a flaw in GPUs, FAST!
Mechanical HD's and CPU's are both quite cheap atm...timing is important on PC purchases it's always been the case to a extent, but it's gotten a little more severe now that tech has become more mainstream and not just a niche geek thing these days.
