Integral has done it again as they did before in the 256 GB MicroSD card release: their new, announced 512 GB MicroSD will officially be the biggest (and first) of its kind in the tech world when it comes around to retail shelves next February. Integral is a company that specializes in memory products, and already has 2 TB M.2 SSD releases under its belt as well. And it will also be the smallest-ever 512 GB storage card medium.

Now, I understand that MicroSD cards aren't exactly what we here at TPU boot our website to look at; however, I take this opportunity to just invite our readers to stare in awe at how far ahead we've come since the time of 3½-inch floppy disks. The previous biggest MicroSD card record-holder was Sandisk, with their 400 GB offering; and still is the fastest of the high-capacity MicroSD cards at 100 MB/s. However, Integral's MicroSD is no slouch either, still managing to deliver 80 MB/s max speeds, with a minimum 10 MB/s writes guaranteed (it's classified as an SDXC UHS-I U1 card, and meets the V10 standard for video transfer rates, so it's designed to capture full HD video off cameras). Expect this tiny MicroSD to deliver quite the blow to your monthly earnings should you be looking to buy it come February, though. And I do hope you never lose it.

So, to be clear, is this coming out next month, February of 2018, or do we have to wait until February of 2019 for the release of this product?

"And I do hope you ever lose it."

... don't?

Good luck finding a phone that properly supports 512GB (tho they all advertise up to 2TB) or one that even has a MicroSD card slot. Cameras are different beast tho.

This means in a few weeks or 2019?
Just a few years ago 1GB was considered revolutionary!
To be fair that was more than a decade ago..

All Android devices from 4.2.2 up support 2TB natively. I have several device that does "officially" support anything over 32GB, but my 128GB and 200GB cards all work just fine as long as they're formated fat32 or exfat.

I remember the days of having to compress a file and divide them up into 1.38M pieces to fit them into a stack of floppies. I don't miss those days, at all.

That is why I loved the Zip drives and discs. The 100MB discs were great, the 250MB drives and discs were even better! I was one of the few people that had the 750MB versions. Oh yeah, but I digress..

I had those and I loved them.... but I was plagued by the Zip "click of death" :(
I remember there was an MP3 player with mini zip discs, that was awesome

Now, 512GB on a microSD... that's pretty awesome.

I only ever encountered that problem once and it happened after the drive had been dropped. Took it apart and found the head mis-aligned, realigned it and it worked fine after that.

Interestingly enough, that was called the "Click" drive.

I remember having a 128MB mp3 player in 2004 and it was so damn cool back then.

Having a card like this means almost infinite amount of cat pictures.

Now create a U3 version of this.. to guarantee a minimum of 30MB/s write speed.

The issues with huge capacities is that they compromise performance for more storage.. but don't forgot, if they only guarantee 10MB/s write speed. then they can guarantee you that you can fill it in at least 14 hours & 13 minutes (add few more minutes of course). assuming you're copying only large files.

I know in most cases we won't need to fill it in one time. but even a moderate files sizes for it's usage scenarios like dashcams, surveillance, gopro's etc where multi GB's files are common, then a simple 2GB file will need 3+ minutes.

U3 is a minimum for this size, and it's even slow.

if they only guarantee 10MB/s write speed.
The spec calls for that as a minimum. Most devices I've used can do at least that if not a lot more. I have a Sandisk that will only do ~20-30 and a Samsung that will do ~70-90.

Unfortunately, flash media like these only have a number of writes before they die. At least the Sandisk ones tend to. Dash cams that constantly erase and rewrite data are one of the worst offenders when it comes to killing MicroSD cards.

This company simply re-brands SD cards from the fabs.

Rebrands something, which didnt exist before? Should I really take a look at your nickname?

I saw this tonight on amazon.uk on pre-order for 295 pounds, but they won't ship it to the US. It's on pre-order for February 10th. That price translates to $425 in US dollars. No idea when or if it's coming to the US.

I dare ppl to make eating these the next tide pods
