This card should be an exceptional crypto miner. They're obviously going after AMD/Radeon with this one since Radeon cards are great for mining Ethereum and nVidia has always lagged here. Ethereum is a "Turing" Complete blockchain.

Great move by nVidia; however, Ethereum's switch to Proof of Stake is likely later this year meaning these cards better be good at Equihash and the other mining algorithms or this is a bad move.
During the years of being stuck at 28nm (because of TSMC's failure with the 22nm node), Nvidia made a conscious decision to scale back on the compute resources on the GPU die. This allowed them to increase the actual gaming oriented resources instead.
This is what allowed AMD to leap ahead in computing. Seeing as how Nvidia has a separate line of products aimed at HPC, they may also not revisit that decision anytime soon.

That aside, we still have no clue what this "Turing" thing is.

It is not going to be an exceptional miner, equipped with 12GB/s GDDR6, it is only 20% better than 1080, or about the same as 20% overclocked one, which all are capable of. so be prepared for a sweet card that doesn't mine all that well. the level of GTX 1070.

1st time i heard of VOLTA was back at 2010.
they milked us for 5 years with maxwell and pascal.
i remember saying back then that "maxwell is just a wonnabe Volta". _ (and i said it just cause of Nvidias Road Map back then)
shame we had to wait 5-6 years for it.

To the author:

"This could be the codename of an ASIC or an SKU and not the architecture (which could be "Volta")"

It should "a SKU", and by no means am I saying that like a troll or a-h0le, this is my favorite tech site and I'm just looking out for it....a good tip is to read a piece of writing aloud before publishing it, this will make any grammatical errors more obviously stand out, which is helpful considering spelling and grammatical check as a tendency to miss plenty of errors. WCCFTech constantly has the most egregious errors in their writing and it makes them come off as extremely unprofessional (as if the users contributing to their comments sections below every article don't achieve this already), especially considering it only takes a literal few minutes to read something aloud prior to publishing. I tutor writing for high school and College (undergrad) students, so realizing errors has become as reactionary as blinking.

I bet it will be a great card and given the price of the standard price of the 1080 Ti and then it's inflated price due to mining, I'm sure this will be reassuringly expensive and cost comfortably in the 4 figure range, well out of my reach.

Ahh, so it's a codename for whole arch. That would mean next one is Turing not Ampere though... Hmm wondering chip naming, there already was GT100 from Tesla arch(rest is fine gt215 and gt218).
As it has been said previusly i can also confirm that Steve from Gamers Nexus seemed to be prety confident on one of his latest videos that Ampere wasn't the real name of the next gaming arch .
On top of that knowing that reviewers have already this type of info gives even more credit to the "one month from launch" claim on this article .

Not really. Hell, I mean isn't the 1070 like the card of choice? And the crown belongs to the Titan Volta.

This is what allowed AMD to leap ahead in computing. Seeing as how Nvidia has a separate line of products aimed at HPC, they may also not revisit that decision anytime soon.

Certain kinds of computing. Not all mining is dependent on DP. Actually very little is.

...hopefully it will be as well done as the 9XX and 1XXX series, but at more reasonable prices and higher availability.
In current GPU market situation?

2080 Ti 4608 Cudаs at 999$ would be a steal.

1. it would be the 1180 Ti
2. it wont be that.
3. if you really think 1000 dollars for a videocard is a steal, get me one as well.

If this is indeed the next gaming card, then gamers who need one may want to fork over the extra money to get one as soon as it is launched (I.e. before the miners find out it works great for them too). It may be all the chance there is before they all disappear for good.

yep its gonna be the same shit all over again as it was with Vega, retailers will tack on another $200 before even putting up the store page for them. Miners catch wind and the price will double overnight. Yep, it will be years before many will be able to afford a used card with decent gaming performance.

I get your point your trying to make, but the first gpu shortage (which was not near as severe) occured around that time. GPU mining was certainly a thing then. It's been around since Fermi.

Mining this, blah blah, mining that.

What's the point in me even getting excited about next gen GPUs when "miners" will buy them all in ten femotseconds for exorbitant prices anyway.

Must be the μArch codename because calling the HPC line Turing would make much more sense being one of the fathers of computers and having the AI test named after him...

Would indeed think Turing as very strange name for gaming card.
For HPC card it would be certainly perfectly fitting name.
