Chinese authorities have apprehended 15 individuals tied to a gang that has been developing and selling cheat programs for the ever so popular PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. The arrested suspects have been fined around 30 million yuan, equivalent to 4.71 million dollars. While this is great progress, the police will continue their efforts to bring the whole gang to justice. According to the local Chinese newspapers, the notorious gang probably profited over 30 million yuans from selling their programs to PUBG players. Some of the programs that were being sold also came with hidden malicious code to steal the victims' login credentials and other personal data. Earlier this year, Chinese police also arrested around 120 people suspected of creating cheats for the popular battle royale. A huge portion of PUBG's player base resides in China which makes selling cheats to the Chinese population an extremely lucrative activity. Heck, even Dell advertised their latest gaming laptops as great for running multiple 'plugins' in PUBG.

Yuan is one of those words that is both singular and plural. /GN

Plugins are not cheats necessarily, UT99 had game modifiers. The thing is you had to specify what modifiers you were using in each room

Seems like they were arrested for selling viruses, not cheats.

this makes me so warm and fussy inside and out. Very happy news.

I got UMPd the other day from at least 100yards away (a headshot), watched the replay and was like... yeah ummmmm report. Or simply an amazing shot. I hate to just bluntly call a cheater because I died. But two shots with a UMP at 100yards+ and a headshot?!?! I guess cheats/"hacks" or just a super amazing pro gamer doing his job.

china numma wun!

1 shot 1 kill sounds like aimbot

What a waste of resources

Poor guys, after all it's not like they were selling drugs. This is wayy to much imo.

oh yeah for sure, if it was any other gun I wouldn't have been like "WOW WTF REALLY!?" but a 9mm UMP, oh come on!

what really? it costs companies millions to combat. the cops doing their jobs is a waste of resources? Not as if it is even your tax paying dollars so why in the end does it matter.

read my above.... hackers cost developers loads of cash. If hackers didn't exist then the developers wouldn't have to spend money on redevelopment to stop the hacking.

It is UNLAWFUL, so they are/were breaking the LAW!

selling drugs is likely a less of a crime anyways :P

Considering realistically pistols effective range is 25 yards

Did the police stop all the murders, rapes, assaults? Oh yeah, that's right they haven't, what I'm saying is that protecting individuals is ALWAYS more of a priority than a company losing some of its exhorbinant profits.....people should come before corporations, and I truly don't understand how anyone could argue against that

Well gamers were filing complaints the publisher looked into it, so they were in turn protecting their clients/users.

People selling drugs and doing drugs have zero effect on the people not selling them or doing them, so why do people care so much about things that have no effect on them? That's seems psychologically disturbed to me...

Because it affects families and also drug addicts do some crazy stuff along with the drug dealers

Clients/users = their means of profit, and that's the only reason why they care....i just don't think that the police, who are funded through taxes of individuals, should be using those resources to protect corporations that do everything to get out of paying those very same taxes

To me it sounds like you have an axe to grind.

I'm not going to try to prove a point since in your own mind you think you are right.

Effects families? I had an alcoholic father a heroin addict sister and I still think all drugs should be legal, it's nobody's business what anyone does with their own body. And, the problem with grieving family members is they don't want to HONESTLY fix the problem, they're really seeking revenge, so they go before Congress and get laws passed that limit the freedoms of consenting adults that don't do anything wrong. Look up the statistics, the vast, vast majority of drug users are recreational, never get addicted, and never do anything wrong...wby should they be punished for the actions of a few? Last time I checked, when someone gets a DUI, everyone doesn't loose their license

To me it sounds like someone peed in your Cheerios lol.

Well, that's a unique shortcut to thinking and a roundabout way of surrendering

Stay on topic please- otherwise take it to PM

If they didn't have holes in the first place they wouldn't have to plug them. It's not like this developer is hurting for cash when they've sold tens of millions of copies of an alpha/beta product. Not unless they've had serious bungling with their finances .

It's a sad story in so many ways.. :(

Not really how it works... but ok. Do you think because a company makes a billion dollars they want to stop, no, not when they can make another billion. So why not stop the people keeping or at least not helping you from doing that. surely it cost them less to get the police involved than it did to let it keep happening ;)

@AnarchoPrimitiv man some of your comments are all over the place... the police shouldn't protect certain people or corporations because of how much or little taxes they pay? WAHT!!?!!? you crazy man.
Thinking that the police could have been catching murders and rapers, if they didn't catch these hackers, is also very out there?... like the have a radar going and say, "oh either I go to 4th street and catch this guy killing this lady or I go stop the hackers because gamers aren't playing nicely." NOPE NOT HOW IT WORKS!!!!

Depends on the caliber but over all yeah, 25 yards. 9 yards is a normal engagement for sidearms if I remember correctly. With that being said I wouldn't want to be hit with a 45,40, or 9 at 26 yards lol. Also lets not get in the ballistics of video games. Remember BF2? TWO shots with a G-D damn Barret 50 cal to kill a solider. lol I know you are a gun enthusiast like me, its gotta drive you up the wall! Anyway I just consider "health" as a "luck" meter. That way when you die after two shots from a 50 cal your luck ran out. Less annoying that way lol

It's their competence, with hacks apparently being so common, and their financials feeling a hit that I'm doubting. If Steamspy is accurate they can't have too many sales left to squeeze out.
