Sounds like me. I remember when I first came here I wanted to find out if I could mod my FX 5200 Ultra to something better after reading about the trickery going on with other cards. It was also around 06 I got a 6800XT, but that was a bittersweet moment. Along with it I got a crappy power supply that I later found out was notorious for being... crappy. I killed my board swapping the video card back and forth so many times because of that power supply having coil whine like a MFer (Antec Smartpower 2.0)

You just reminded me something that i have forgotten: back in those days we would seek out what kind of memory is installed on the PCB and what timings the memory had! Nowdays every manufacturer installs the same VRAM chips, it seems, with the same part number. What still astounds me is that even with the identical memory chips the cards prefer to overclock very very differently... I've seen that plenty of times in wizzard's reviews.

Yea iirc it was a "Loophole" that Gainward did that, and it ended up getting them in Hot water about doing the RAM swap. NVidia "allowed the use of the G71 chip", but didn't say about which RAM was to be used. Now there is stricter guideline's on just what an AIB can do different with GPU's. I was able to run it at 700/1600 pretty easily. :eek:

it's actually still in my System spec Bench/Score :ohwell:

I came for my 6800 Ultra drivers, found out my Ultra psu was poopies got a good one after that. Back then it was this site n MVK or what that sites name was.... I just leerk now
