EVGA has been teasing its flagship GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Kingpin graphics card for well over a month now, and we've finally had a chance to pick one up in the flesh. This card is every professional overclocker's liquid-cooled wet-dream, with a PCB designed with inputs from Vince "Kingpin" Lucido, and a hybrid AIO-CLC cooling solution. The PCB features a 19-phase VRM that pulls power from three 8-pin PCIe power connectors located at the tail end of the card. The CLC makes contact with the GPU, while a copper base-plate, mated with several copper heatsinks over the memory and VRM areas, offload some of their heat to the block. A 100 mm fan ventilates some of these heatsinks.

A 120 mm radiator is on the other end of the card's CLC. This time around, the cooler actually serves a significant function besides being something you rip apart to install your LN2 evaporator: the shroud is studded with an LCD display with a limited feature-set resembling that of the EVBot. Right next to this LCD are diagnostic LEDs, voltage measurement points, a BIOS selector switch, and headers for a full-featured EVBot-like device. The GPU and memory chips are hand-binned for this card, and most of its electrical components are sourced from top bins. These come together for an ungodly amount of overclocking headroom not just with exotic DIY cooling, but also out of the box.

This is what i call an ugly card.

I knew from the teaser would be a hybrid, and EVGA never do beautiful hybrid cards... but damn, this is ugly.

To each their own.. when I get mine I'll just be removing the plastic shroud and leaving the heatsink exposed, which to me, will look beautiful. That's assuming these are available before RTX 21xx are released.

That is... quite a look alright... :wtf:

IMO the kingpin edition should really just come with a high quality insulated pot pre-mounted on the card with insulated backplate though.

Otherwise what's the point?

I'm not sure if there would be any advantage over any other 2080 Ti card on the market personally for gaming but if you have the cash to spend and so on, why wouldn't you get it?? I am a little surprised no quick release or option of a full cover block hasn't been mentioned.. I'm unsure what the point of a hybrid card is on this spec'd level of card... Appealing to the masses I guess....

Another thing I notice about this is the mounting of the AIO on the sillicon. On EVGA's Pascal Hybrids the pump was mounted at an angle on the copper plate which made it difficult to swap to a different cooler (if you wanted a larger radiator or your pump went bad). This one appears to be going straight up and down with a normal mounting pattern making it easy to swap out to say a 280 or 240mm if you wanted more radiator space.

Yeah why is EVGA being so cheap (design aesthetics wise) with the most expensive series... Makes no sense.

If these cards are power limited like all other RTX cards then none of this fancy cooling will give it an "ungodly amount of overclocking headroom."

All the real tweakers with a name brand will be given a HULK key for bios mods. Been that way since pascal.

Meanwhile we are left out in the cold.

Should have a bios with an unlock available just like the rog strix cards of every Gen.

3x 8-pins? I do not think there have ever been many cards with something like that, seems a bit going backward.

Vince told me "It will be sold both ways, both Hydro/Hybrid" meaning there will also be a HydroCopper version of the RTX 2080 Ti K|NGP|N available as well.

The combination of what I'm sure is the usual overkill OC Kingpin treatment on the card itself (in terms of component capabilities, copper VRM cooling, etc.) with the thin-radiator, single fan cooling solution strikes me as odd. That would be enough to dissuade me from a purchase on its own.

There were at least a couple of bioses out for Pascal cards like the strix/kp XOC bioses with unlocked power temp and voltage. I have the strix XOC on my 1080ti FTW and it has no problems with power. I think that's gonna happen this generation as well so we may see unlocked control with those cards.
