I am stuck trying to figure this one out, please help

I've got a surface pro 3 with only 4GB of ram and it runs windows 10 just fine, as long as i dont try and run intensive programs

I experienced something rather similar recently. suspecting it was a memory issue, I removed one stick and then the system was fine. I plugged the stick back and it's been fine ever since. Not sure what could have happened (the memory DIMMs are secured pretty tightly), but I'm just saying, you may want to check the memory, too. Maybe a bootable Ubuntu stick that will let you run memtest?

As said many times, no it doesn't. It "needs" only 1 GB for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit to run. But with that, it would seriously be bottlenecked and would bang on the drive's Page File almost constantly. Not recommended, though it would run.

2 GB for 32-bit or 4 GB for 64-bit would be much better, and the minimum I would recommend if on a tight budget.

4 GB for 32-bit is the maximum supported. 8 GB for 64-bit is probably the "sweetspot" for most users. Though for heavy users, gamers, and all new builds and upgrades, I generally recommend 16GB these days for the best performance and future proofing - but mostly to avoid compatibility issues should the user want to upgrades 3 - 4 years down the road. Only a very few people "need" more than 16GB. Of course "need" and "want" are two entirely different things.
