ASUS updated its circa 2016 GeForce GT 710 graphics card with a new PCB and a modern display output setup. The GT710-4H-SL-2GD5 succeeds the GT710-SL series graphics cards. While those were truly half-height and single-slot, the new card is full-height. These cards aren't really meant for gaming in 2020, but rather something to put out graphics if you have a workstation with many displays and can't be bothered with 3D rendering performance. This particular card puts out four HDMI ports. You can connect up to one 4K UHD display at 60 Hz. If more than one 4K display is connected, the refresh-rate is limited to 30 Hz. We guess this card is best suited for video walls or digital signage setups. Expect it to be priced around $50.

As weird as it sounds, this is exactly what I need for my home theatre PC. The cheapest graphics card with 4K 60 Hz HDMI output (as far as I know) has been the GT 1030 which is way more expensive than this. I hope it comes to the UK soon.

I kind of have to wonder - wouldn't it be better to have the HDMI ports stacked, a low-profile 2-slot card?
Most of the low-profile HTPC or business cases where this would go into have 2 slots at the back.

I can see it having a use due to the PCIe x1 slot connectivity, but for anything with a PCIe x16 slot there are better options.

A used Quadro K2000 is under 40$ and has 2xDP1.2 and a DVI port. A used Quadro K1200 is about 60$ and has 4xDP1.2. The K1200 is also properly low-profile. AMD FirePro W600s are occasionally around 50-60$ on ebay or even cheaper (but their price fluctuates, a lot), and they have 6xDP1.2.

Finally, some entry level product with a useful feature.
The only thing that sucks is that it uses a very old GPU, but NVIDIA and AMD refuse to cut their silicons too small anyway nowadays.

Used. Seriously?

Low-end workstation card are single-slot. Why quit that convention now?

Asus wanted 4 outputs and had to focus on some market. They sacrificed half-height slots. I'm not surprised - these cases are extremely rare outside of the business offer from large OEMs.

It is just the way the half-height slots are sacrificed - the card itself is half-height, except for the actual outputs.

A 1x card that can do 4k 60? yeah, i can see uses for this... although i can see more uses for 4x 1080p outputs in business environments

I remember there used to be cards shipped with two brackets that you can choose to install with single-slot full-height or dual-slot half-height

This. Even better, they could've used DisplayPort instead of HDMI.

K1200 and W600 have mini-DP, which means you need adapters. And I can't find any of those cards for the prices you've listed - K1200 are going for $90, W600 for $100 ex shipping.

The GT 710 is probably the only cheap, old card that makes sense in this price range. With only 19W TDP and a somewhat not ancient architecture, it can cover most needs. But people looking seriously for a modern HTPC card, I think they should consider the 1030 just for the h265 decoding capabilities. But I could be wrong here.

I bought a K1200 off ebay for 56$ three weeks ago. There is one there for 65$ right now (with free shipping in the US). I picked up a pair of W600s, each for 45$, a couple of months ago. W600 prices vary widely, but as soon as more older systems hit e-recyclers, it drops significantly. For a K1200 around 60$ you just need to wait a few days.

If only this weren't a GT 710 in particular, but maybe a GT 1030 (you know, a GPU that is CAPABLE of rendering a YouTube video in 4K)... I would happily buy. Oh also I need at least 4GB VRAM and more than PCIe x1 bc that can also bottleneck performance (not for gaming, but for outputting displays).

I can not understand why it's named a 710 , they have 910 out previously why isn't this called a 910, genuine question I have no clue, I have a 910 and a 410 so it seams odd.

Hmmm, you could probably fit 3 HDMI ports on a half-height card if you spaced them a bit closer.

TY - I'm interested to know what search terms you've used to find that, since my own search for "k1200" doesn't bring up that listing.

And you still need adapters.

It's named what it is because it is a GT 710. It's not a new chip, it's ye olde Kepler/Maxwell.

That just makes it stranger a gt 710 now,all this time after the 910 has shipped, it is what it is though , I wouldn't buy one anyway and it seems a bit niche , I get some want just graphics but of those ,a need for four monitors must be slim.

Well it seems as if the Asus factory crews have been scrounging around in their garbage bins again, lookin for some miscellaneous crap to re-re-reuse again, and this is the best they could come up with....

what a friggin waste of time, money & resources :(

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, it is so close to actually being useful. Why in the world would they not go up to something with h265 support in this era? I have customers that come in with older desktops that are still good, but are not going to handle higher resolutions or multi-displays on older integrated graphics. Some are SFF which means recommending used quadro's. Most of these consumers don't want or need a gaming graphics card and there is the limitations of what the proprietary power supply can handle. I've basically come back with a reply of do you want a used quadro or a used half height gtx 1050ti that pulls 35w from pc express only? :p

I know what we need. Nvidia released the mx350 for laptops. It is basically a gtx 1050. Need that in a desktop version for under $80.
