With Ryzen you typically always want to be on the latest bios.

I just built 2 x570/3900x rigs for clients with this same mobo, and although I had no issues with them at all, the newest bios got me an extra 100mhz OC plus better temps too, so YES, I would say it is worth it, but as stated above, YMMV :)

On intel there is little reason to update bios aside from security patches, on AMD however, i would say once you get a new board it would be better to flash it to the latest bios just that one time because AMD mostly releases half baked bios at launch, then flesh them out months later.

Almost correct, the UEFI/BIOS is up to the board maker, but what AMD has proven is that it takes them quite some time to fix the AGESA which is AMD's layer between the UEFI and the CPU.

As pointed out, make sure you update, as AGESA 1.0.0.4 has a lot of fixes that you'll want, ranging from fixing boost behaviour to reducing idle temps.

I've downgraded to 1405 because in 1407 the HDD LED doesn't work. I kinda love this feature so much I can't live without it.

What's really astonishing is that no one has even noticed that aside from me - there are a couple of threads on Reddit and everyone's loving the new BIOS. Is everyone blind or what?

Are you talking about the hdd led for the case/tower? If so, I just checked mine, and it is working with the 1407 bios.
