Total War Saga: Troy to Be Free on Launch Day via EPIC Games Store

(Update 13AUG2020: The game is now available for free on the EPIC Games Store platform, so make sure to go there and add it your basket STAT.)

Here's EPIC kicking up its free game offerings up several notches at once. Sega and Creative Assembly, developers of the user and critically-acclaimed Total War videogames, have announced that their latest release on that series, titled Total War Saga: Troy, will be available on launch day, August 13th, when it launches exclusively on EPIC Games Store. Based on Homers' Illiad, "A Total War Saga: TROY focuses on the historical flashpoint of the Trojan War, bringing the conflict to life as never before."

A caveat: the game will only be available for free in the first 24 hours following launch. Any claims after that will be met with the games' real price-tag. How's that for EPIC Games Store exclusivity deals? Check the games' trailer and confirmation of this promotion after the break.

I love them too. def going to grab this. i generally only play the campaigns, mess around in custom battles with AI, then i quit and move on. i never play multi. but i might try it this time i dunno

Ok, so on the 13th we all try and get the game and the servers crash and 24 hours later, we get nothing... GTA5 all over again, but at least there, we had a week.

That's the kicker. Unlike GTA5 where you had one week, this game is months away. By that time so many users will know about it, it's almost certain to crash the server because you only have 24Hrs. I could not log in to my account for around an hour & even then I could not get to the check-out for GTA5. I did get the game about three hours later thou.

I have always bought Total War games at launch since Shogun 2. With the undisputed success of Warhammer and the expected uptick in users due to 3 Kingdoms. I am willing to bet that no one saw this coming before it was announced.

Correct. It is quite obvious that the publisher/developer are making out on this deal or they would have simply said no, and went to any other distribution platform such as Steam. If Epic wants to absorb the cost to benefit the devs and customers, so be it.

In fact, when I pick this one up for free I'll be sure to also hit up their sale and make yet another unplanned purchase as a token of gratitude, just like with the GTA5 give away. BL3 looks like it will be the one. Thanks again EGS!!

I grabbed it after work no problem and no hassle bc I wasn't waking up at 4a.m.(for warhammer Troy, I will, tho.) to get that game for free. So yeah just wait till the rush is over. Personally, I'm going to try once as soon as the offer goes live. If the servers instantly caught fire then I'll try again half a day later.

It is Troy not Warhammer

That would be difficult to do especially if you want it to work with Mortal Empires.

It would not be a surprise if Warhammer 3 was an Epic exclusive, hope i am 100% wrong thou.

It is unlikely, due to Mortal Empires, but who knows.
This decision clearly was done due to more money than CA has faith in their own product being able to make.

Well here we are August 13 and I successfully got it for free and am downloading it now and 19MB/s so it looks like there servers were up to the challenge.
