AMD today silently launched its limited "Black Edition" Athlon 64 X2 6400+ with 90nm Windsor core. The product is on sale in Japan at a price of ¥32,000 YEN, equal to around USD $280. The latest Socket AM2 CPU runs at 3.2GHz, and has 2x1MB L2 cache. Manufactured using 90nm SOI technology it has TDP of 125W. All Black Edition labeled CPUs will come without the usual boxed heatsink.

Auch...my fault, thanks man

I heard it doesnt come with the normal heatsink which is the most interesting thing Ive heard about a X2 processor in awhile.

Yes i heard that too, think they are trying to keep the cost's to a minimum

So it just has no heatsink at all?

no heatsink usually equals no warranty with AMD...will this hold true for these chips????????????

is this a AM2 chip????? I take it its an AM2.... (hopefully not *crosses my fingers*)

so they want folks to get their own cooling huh? Whats so special about it? Black box as in black balled???

no hsf? hmmm the last time they did that in non oem form was with the athlon xp-m's which were stellar overclockers, interesting.

but for 280$ you could almost get two 6000's. lol

Maybe they are cherry picked for the overclockers? Don't think I've had a stock heatsink since 486 DX4 100MHz days, so I don't see anything wrong here. It's just better not to have a useless stock cooler laying around. Think of it as tray in a fancy box, propably just a marketing gimmick, but I have a feeling they'll do better than regular ones as I've yet to see Intel or AMD market any processor as "Great overclocker!". Even Core 2 Duos are sold normal, even if 50% of users overclock them.

$280? Wow... I would just buy the 6000+, save over $100. It's just 200mhz...
Almost forgot... the 6000+ comes with a heatsink :p
