Microsoft Reveals Final Pricing and Availability of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S

Microsoft today finalized the pricing and announced availability dates of its next-generation Xbox entertainment systems. The company has segmented its console lineup to target two price points, with the mighty Xbox Series X being priced at USD $499 (ERP), and the newly announced Xbox Series S at $299 (ERP). Both models will be available from November 10, 2020, but pre-orders for both begin from September 22. The Xbox Series X covers the complete next-generation hardware feature-set of Microsoft's next-gen console, offering 4K UHD gaming, and an optical disc drive for physical media.

The Xbox Series S, on the other hand, is an all-digital console, meaning that the games you own are downloaded onto its local storage to play, there's no optical disc drive. The Xbox Series S further offers 1440p gameplay at frame-rates of up to 120 FPS, or 4K UHD gameplay upscaled from a lower resolution, or high refresh-rate 1440p/1080p gameplay. You still do get the full DirectX 12 Ultimate feature-set. The NVMe SSD-based local storage for the Xbox Series S is 512 GB, half that of the Xbox Series X.

Swedish price is revealed to be 5695 SEK, which translates to ~640 USD, which may sound much but it was more or less assumed that it would land at about 7000SEK. If it actually lands on 5695 price it's massive value, exactly the cost of a 2070 Super.

That price looks very disruptive for sony who looked like they were scared to announce it for that very reason. I guess they might have to price match now.

A pretty darn good price considering. The cheaper one surprises me but based on the differences in size there must be some decent trade offs (Besides the obvious lack of a drive). I am guessing the hardware will probably be similar inside that one to the current Xbox ONE X.

They can't compete with the S, it's just too cheap, but it's performance is less than half the X, Sony has identical specs sans Bd drive, so the price difference shouldn't be £200, will Joe public realise, who knows.

I was guessing it without be 55kr more than the launch price. Had a long discussion with my cousin about it, but he wants a PS5 so...
He refused to believe the PS5 will be more than 4,500kr...

Nope, cut down version of the hardware in the X, with less RAM, a smaller drive etc. Most likely being sold at a loss.

Yeah, check out the specs I posted above. the S is for 1440p gaming at 60 up to 120 fps gaming.

Right now I've got a 2700x/5700xt build, and I was probably going to upgrade to Zen3 and Big Navi, but I might just get the Xbox Series X and hold off at least 6 months on the PC upgrade until hardware prices come down or there are some discounts, especially considering my PC is good enough for the non-gaming stuff I use it for, plus it's easier to use a console and a television to play games with my niece than it is on PC.

Wonder what the home brew/modding scene will do with the new Xbox over the next year as well

Same here. Sit it out on my 1080/6700k with Xbox Series X for latest greatest games until am5/lga1700 and then jump or go for zen 3 3070/3080 and not care? Decisions, decisions...

Not really. 8K ready means it can pass through and probably output on an 8K resolution. Nothing else.

its the new norm for any GPU, so why not on the new consoles with said new gpu - that is what you are getting here. This tells you absolutely nothing of 8K performance or capability. Just the signal.

And honestly... for real, bro? 8K at a playable framerate is something you really assume? This console will push 4K30 at the very best, maybe 60 in some low detail / cell shaded game or two. And while using all sorts of dynamic scaling.

No brainer I think... full and free backwards and forward compatibility plus probably much stronger RT performance and content/development, or buying all your shit once again and paying full price on subscriptions.

The entry price is not the real price of a console and it hasn't been since last gen. Do the math of all those years of XBL... the additional content you still buy on top of it,... etc etc And then there is the walled garden problem, killing any real (price) competition on the platform.
