AMD earlier today made public its YouTube live-stream link for its next-generation Ryzen desktop processor. Its title reads "Where Gaming Begins | AMD Ryzen 5000 Series Desktop Processors." This confirms the Ryzen 5000 series nomenclature for the company's Socket AM4 desktop processors based on the "Zen 3" architecture, based on a multi-chip module codenamed "Vermeer." This would effectively make these chips "5th Generation Ryzen." Rumors of the 5000 series nomenclature first surfaced in mid-September, when the running theory was that with the "Zen 2" based "Renoir" taking up many of the model numbers in the 4000 series (eg: 4700G, 4750G, etc.,) AMD would want to segment its next-generation chips in a higher number series. The AMD Ryzen 5000 series "Zen 3" launch event is set to go live in under 13 hours from now.

Finally Intel's gaming reign is over, since 2006 Intel dominated it.

Realistically speaking it was over for a while now

I hope the price for 12 core cpu will be not overpriced.

Is Intel even planning on making chiplets?

All this hype and if does not beat the 10900k in gaming, it’s a major flop of epic proportion.

It's not going to be a live stream. They are using Premieres. Its right there in the photo. It's pre-recorded. Where did AMD say it was a livestream?

More than that if you include Bulldozer and prior. AMD has been the underdog since 2006.

And you can't count the 4000 series as there is no 4000 series for Ryzen Desktop CPUs. Ryzen has had 3 generations across every product stack (1xxx/2xxx/3xxx for Ryzen Desktop CPU, 2xxx/3xxx/4xxx for Ryzen Desktop APU and mobile APU), the ones currently on 4xxx started at 2xxx, so they're only at the third generation.

No the closest we have to a rumor where they "might" do MCM is the post Rapids gen & as far as I can tell there's no viable glue they've gotten their hands on till now!
The only downside here is that Intel hasn’t spoken much about the glue that binds it all together. Chiplet strategies rely on complex high-speed interconnect protocols, custom or otherwise. Current uses of Intel’s die-to-die connectivity are either simply memory protocols or FPGA fabric extensions – the big ones for server CPUs like UPI aren’t necessarily up to the task. CXL could be the future here, however current CXL is built upon PCIe, which means a complex CXL/PCIe controller for every chiplet which will likely get power hungry fast.
Btw this was before the latest round of "delays" so who knows when any of it will come out.

Intel has got the financial might to get back up, that is if they wake up from their slumber soon. At this point, I don't actually think Intel has anything up their sleeve to get them out of this mess they created.

We will know today. But I feel it is not just about gaming itself that made Ryzen popular. If I take Ryzen 2xxx and 3xxx as an example, you would have seen their market share climbing up steadily over the years. Yet none of these Zen+ and Zen 2 could beat Intel's higher end processors in games. What Ryzen brings to the table is a CPU that runs very well as an all rounder. And best of all, it cost less than competition.

Nicely said! Yeah, AMD is climbing up. That is good for us.

When Intel comes back, AMD is going back where they were during FX era. They definitely need chiplet designs for workstation though, but they know that.

They have yet to catch up, as both Ice Lake and Tiger Lake have a vastly better IPC. And I'm talking about Zen 3 as well.

And none of them hold a candle to say the 3950x, so your point is IPC is everything huh? Just like the GHz race during peak P4 meltdown

Heck ICL was inferior to may of the "10th gen" SKL derivatives on 14nm+++ that's why they had to rush in yet another Lake to stop bleeding their mobile division!

And half the amount of cores, so AMD wins that round, no matter if the IPC is lower. IGP is another story tho.

Now shoot me for just posting one benchmark, also, benchmarks are outdated?? :D
Also gimme a soapbox speech about single thread performance. I care.

And yeah, there are faster Tigers out there, but they're still 4C, dunno how 100 MHz turbo would make any tangible improvements.

Ofc, because PC's are meant to be used only as console substitutes.

gotta love all the mandatory but totally pointless and unnecessary and run of the mill fanboyism that these sort of news articles attract.

Intel's been talking about the MCM for quite a while now but this is still nothing certain. I think it started over 5 years or so ago and still nothing.

I think you got it all the way around buddy.

All this hype and if does not beat the 10900k in gaming, it’s a major flop of epic proportion.

Yes, we have seen the previous gens of Ryzen CPUs to be a major flop despite being slower in games (=6% or so slower with the current high-end GPU in FHD, LOL). :D Somehow every Amazon sites have a 2/3 AMD - 1/3 Intel ratio in the top20 bestseller CPUs (Germany, US, UK), and we have heard numbers from German and Japan retailers as well, being around 70-30% sells (and it was the 2000 series as far as I remember, and the difference has only grown bigger with Zen 2). And the imbalance is even bigger in the top 10: there is about a 80-20% there. It means that out of 100 CPUs, 80 AMD and 20 Intels CPUs are sold. If you inspect the German Amazon numbers, in the top 10, there are a whopping 9 AMD and only 1 Intel CPUs. Whatever single thread performance the Zen 3 has, as far as it has similar pricing as the earlier gens, it will sell hot. And the reason? Stable increase in performance (contrary to Intel), longer mobo support (there is a 3 generation "gap" between supported mobos and CPUs, while at Intel, usually only 1 generation difference is possible, or even 0), better efficiency, just to mention some important factors.
