MSI's Entire Lineup of AMD 400-series Chipset Motherbord will Support "Zen 3"

AMD has officially announced Zen 3 architecture Ryzen 5000 series processors on October 8th. The latest Zen 3 processors have significant performance improvements compared to the previous 7 nm Ryzen 3000 series processors. For the upcoming processors, MSI has released the latest AGESA COMBO PI V2 1.1.0.0 for all X570 and B550 series motherboards (Link) to perfectly utilize the PCI-E 4.0 performance.

In response to the upgrade demands, AMD also mentioned the BIOS update for selected 400 series motherboards to support Ryzen 5000 series processors will be ready in January 2021. To respond to our users' anticipation, MSI is announcing that all 400 series motherboards, including X470 and B450, MAX, or non-MAX products, will provide BIOS updates later on that can support Ryzen 5000 processors. All the evaluation is in progress under the R&D team. A detailed BIOS release schedule will be announced after the BIOS code is provided by AMD. Please stay tuned for the latest information on the MSI website.



Regarding the 300 series motherboards, including X370, B350, and A320 chips, AMD's current official information points out that they are not supported. If AMD makes any official updates later, MSI will also provide the latest information on time.

I thought none of 400-series boards had PCIe 4? I mean, there were those beta BIOSes which did have support, but AMD decided to lock the feature to 500 series only, so newer BIOS updates came with the feature fully disabled..

MSI's all recent misgivings aside, this is tremendous news for those who bought MSI amd boards. I'd estimate MSI singlehandedly sold 70% of the all B450 boards in the world, at least to the DIY market.

I do believe this is my first msi board in probably over 10 years, maybe even going back as far as socket a athlon days, and I'm impressed with their bios support and fairly quick updates even on previous gen chipset, this is another plus point imo and who knows could sway me to go with msi again on my next upgrade. Asrock are also very good with their bios updates, I'm not keen on Asus or gigabyte these days for various reasons in the past and with their service and or lack of recently, looks like that trend will continue for the foreseeable

I had that exact same board which is now my son's gaming computer, the only issue I had was 2 Ram slots failing, but I've had that happen on other brands too.
If your Windows install died, I'd be looking at other causes than a minor overclock.

I have a msi b450 gaming plus and i found this reassuring from msi, even though I would rather have a x570 for pcie 4.0 storage, still happy i will not need a new board for the 12 core 5900x.

Very true, Asus just lost support of a lot of customers who will now be looking at MSI, I wouldn't be going Asus anyway, if anything my next board would likely be Asrock though MSI has been added to the list now, infact apart from Asus, Asrock, Gigabyte and MSI seems like there is only Biostar that I havent mentioned, is that it, 5 motherboard makers across both Intel and AMD (excluding Intel's own brand, though can't recall seeing one of those since about z77?)

I'm sure there used to be about double that number

Pretty sure Nvidia were the biggest scalpers, trolling people with a release they couldnt fulfill, and they've since past the buck to best buy

Release shortage are nothing new, heck I've lived through countless paper launches. But AIB's selling cards way beyond MSRP to try to make a quick buck is unacceptable.

It was the Command Center. I mean, when you just put 50MHz overclock to see what will happen when you hit Apply and the system freezes imediatelly, this is bad, but not unexpected. When after rebooting the Windows does not boot but keeps crashing even at safe mode, this is much worst and totally unexpected. Could not be repaired either. Really, I was keep looking at that board to get a second one. Going for a cheaper B450 or even micro ATX was making sense, but the boards that where interested me where only 20-25 euros cheaper. So why not another X470? Well, thanks to MSI programmers, now I have the answer to that question.

is not surprising seeing MSI support 5000 series across all 400 chipsets, if I recall it correctly when AMD said 3000 series would only work with x570 at that time, MSI have the loudest voice to ask AMD to release the bios to support 400 series as well.

Why would Asus lose many customers? B450/x470 boards will support Zen3.

Really? Like who? 5 is already pretty good. Biostar is even the newer entry in the MB market. Imagine that number of companies on the CPU / GPU side. That would be amazing. And I don't mean the ones making different coolers for GPUs or changing the PCB layout slightly.

I'm thinking that AIBs are selling way beyond MSRP with nVidia's consent and blessing. Likely that FE cards on MSRP and AIBs on +50~100$ are not making the desirable profit margin, because of the high cost of Ampere GPU cards. They will despense more over Nov but soon they are going to switch to 20GB FE 3080s for ~1000$ MSRP and 1100~1200$ AIB.
I hope I'm wrong, because high-end Ampere wanters are going to re-live the 2080Ti situation.

IMHO MSI 400series, specially the B450s was pretty solid options. Cudos for bringing the entire 400 line to 5000, but be aware of the VRMs if you shooting for 12/16 core parts. Same rules applied as for the 3000series.
